Johnson County, Kansas To Start Randomized Testing

The Johnson County, Kansas, Board of Commissioners on Monday approved a program for additional COVID-19 testing, using a sampling from the community.

Johnson County Department of Health and Environment said it needs to collect data to better estimate case counts and understand the impacts of COVID-19.

Officials said more widespread testing through drive-thru clinics in Johnson County will provide a better picture of the extent of coronavirus spread within the community.

How do y'all feel about this? I've heard from both sides. Personally I think it's a great idea. Others think they shouldn't be "compelled" to test.

More data = good idea. This county has been solid in its response. 👍

2. I think it is a good idea. If you don't have an idea of how widespread (if it is) the CV is,

then how can you effectively rein it in (the CV)? If you rapidly ID the hotspots, then you can act quickly to rein the spread. However, those that don't want to be tested are going to be a problem, this is like drunks being pulled over and not want to get tested. Perhaps they'll do the same for the CV, that those that refuse to be tested for the good of the community will lose their licenses (to drive, etc.).

What surprises me about this is that it's the state of KS, a republican stronghold. For them to engage in this should tell everyone something, that the CV is already out of control in KS, of all states. More than likely, this will be true for all of the plains States. That their non-existent stay at home order policies have failed already and that their populations are now infected because a lot of them are going out doing things in public, when they shouldn't be.

3. Johnson County is actually ...

... more progressive than the rest of the State. We elected Sharice Davids to replace a Tea Party rep, as well as our Democratic Governor, Laura Kelly. She has been quick to close schools and issue stay at home orders, far faster than her neighboring governor in Missouri, Mike Parsons. Our number have been running around 1/3 of what Missouri's are. Kansas cases are in around 50 of 105 counties, with Johnson County (Kansas City area) and Sedgwick County (Wichita) the hotspots (accounting for almost half of the state total).

Bottom line, we did not have a "non existent stay at home order", and Johnson County scored a solid "B" in the cell data social distancing metric.

on their own and implemented stay at home orders, at least two weeks ago. I've been isolated along w/ my SO, thank god.

Guess where the spread of CV is happening? Out in the counties (suburbs) of both these major cities, where the majority of these suburbs didn't implement the stay at home orders (Parsons finally did, after he saw the body counts going up in both KCMO and STLMO suburbs). Idiot.

Too late for a lot of these people in the suburbs. It really is pathetic that Parsons played w/ the lives of numerous Missourians for his republican beliefs that the cities would suffer and not the outstate regions.

Everyone thought the big cities would be the virus hotspots, but in reality, its the suburbs, because they either won't listen or thought they were immune.

Be safe and careful out there in KS. I do have a fondness for KS people, after all, my family lived in KC (right next to KS), parents lived in Topeka, KS, and I played board games in Pittsburg, KS w/ a lot of my friends when I lived in Joplin MO (we would go every Wednesday), friends of mine went to school in Lawrence, KS, and one of my best friends lives in Wichita, KS.

5. Hello there!

Yeah, not all of us Kansas people are backward-thinking yokels. I was born in Wichita but now live in Olathe, which is a KC suburb on the Kansas side. Thank God for Kansas City's mayor Quinton Lucas (he reminds me so much of Obama). He and the mayors of St Louis, Springfield, etc., took matters into their own hands and probably saved lives in the process.

I'm sorry you have an idiot governor .. I wonder if Greitens would have been any better (had he stayed).

Take care and be safe!

from a KS person (me).

I miss the people, and always thought that their 'private' clubs for serving alcohol was so weird and it took some getting used to (I don't know if they still have this in place or not).

Most, if not all, of the people I dealt w/ from KS were down to earth, and I loved them everyone of them. One of our best family friends were from Iuka, KS. Neat ol' ladies and a blast to deal w/. I miss them (they are gone now).

Of course, Johnson County. LOL.

We are so untested. Everyone I know who has been trying to get a test because they have symptoms are told to stay away from the hospitals and you simply cannot get into a doctors office. Just stay home and treat your own damned symptoms. I know quite a few who are doing this now. They will see you if you have the symptoms AND a fever but if no fever you are on your own.
