His minions told him that he should pretend to get it because otherwise it could harm his election chances. Most other countries are ahead of the curve because their leaders aren't totally stupid like ours.

That was all they were ever concerned about. They never intended to control the disease.

And the Republicans in the Senate all seemed to change their minds at the same time.

Before that, he was downplaying it. Then the DOW dropped 10,000 points in less than 2 weeks and he started treating the virus as a real thing.

He knew about this long ago. This is not about convincing him it is real; no, far from it.

It is not about him "getting" anything. It reached threshold were he had to try new test marketing as he surfs this and manipulates it on a daily basis.

I can't imagine that not being obvious, well, I guess if you believe his reality TV show character. Most of what we see from him is a form of conditioning of the population for a dictatorship if he can get it. If you notice how confusing it is and how the gullible Right think he is a gift from God, while some of us have all kinds of notions about ineptitude, etc., that's the confidence man doing his shtick.

the coronovirus. Because he knows this - he's putting on the act that he has to - to try and make him look good at handling this crisis.

That's why he's trying to keep those commercials that show his incompetence and his statements throughout this crisis off the air. He's sent a 'cease and desist' letter to the media. He's trying to act like he's really concerned about people dying from Covid-19. However, he had the Drs. (I believe) grossly overestimate the possible deaths from this crisis to 1 million to 2 million people - so he can come in at the most likely real numbers 100,000 to 200,000 - so he can claim that his 'tremendous' handling of this crisis by him saved a lot of lives. That's why he's trying to cooperate more with the Govs and the States. That's why he's parading all these corporate CEO's in front of us.

The problem is though - that his incompetence has been visible for all to see. Also - he still can't keep his mouth shut at the podium at these daily conferences to lie, take bows by patting himself on the back and lash out at reporters that try to hold his feet to the fire.

He's also been taking credit for what the Gov's and Mayor's around the country are doing to save their people. He's trying to make it look like he's responsible for all the critical decisions that they've had to make.

So - IMHO - what you are seeing is typical Trump - acting out - being what he needs to be in order to be re-elected.
