This was Captain Brett Crozier washing dishes last Thanksgiving in the scullery while @TheRealCVN71 was underway in Pacific so junior crew members could get time for holiday meal. (This is how its done) . US Navy photo Airman DJ Schwartz.

Heroes even wash dishes. Is there any wonder why he got the sendoff he did from the crew?

(2,626 posts)We tend to focus on the News Hog Liar King because, well, if news coverage was toilet paper he'd be wrapped up in it like a mummy.
We need to see the heroes. We need to be reminded that there's lots of good in the world. Spectacular good in the every day acts of kind people and good leaders.
Amazing humans willing to give it all they've got because good matters.
We need to highlight the encouragers, the healers, the ones who make us laugh and the ones who warm our hearts. There are millions and millions of fantastic human beings going about their lives making the world better just for being here.
We don't know what tomorrow will bring. Even in the best of times, we don't really know. I want to live every day as a true human being, not a cheap imposter whose agenda is to make people believe that down is up and up is down. Being good at gaslighting doesn't make him an expert at anything else.
This too shall pass. We will pay a price. But it will pass. Look for the good.

(80,699 posts)Good name for trump - News Hog Liar King. That's certainly what he is.
Appreciate your thoughts. You make a valid point. With trump around it's hard to focus on the good, and we do need to remember there still is good in the world.

(386 posts)...the man who drops his open umbrella at the door of Air Force One to let somebody else come back out, pick up, close, and bring inside.
I'm trying to envision one time in the life of Donald Trump, the man who ordered Capt. Crozier fired, when he's washed off even one of his own dishes.
Much less anybody else's.
Much less subordinates'.
And I'm gettin nothing.

Yet we have posters here saying not all repukes are bad. As if we need to ignore their actions AND listen to the claim how patriotic and moral they are.

(27,762 posts)it was in a bookstore (college textbook, so large) and what I really remember is that if someone like the janitor didn't show up, he'd go in and clean the bathrooms himself. No job was beneath him if it needed doing. He set a great example (he'd grown up poor on a farm and was the first in his family to go to college, etc., and worked his way up from his college job).
So if that's the way Captain Crozier was, I can totally understand the way the crew reacted - and how they must have felt betrayed, too.

(16 posts)This here, is the difference between inspiring loyalty (Capt. Crozier), and demanding loyalty (tRump).
You just know that the men and women under Crozier's command will follow him anywhere into battle. Trump's sycophants turn State's witnesses when the walls begin to close in.

(24,320 posts)Apologies if someone else pointed this out already. I didn't read the whole thread;
Green shirts are worn by some of the hardest-working sailors on the deck, including ones who run and maintain the ships catapults and arresting gear. Hook Runners who make sure the ships cross-deck pendants (wires) make it back into position to trap another aircraft by coercing them with a five-foot steel bar wear green shirts. This is one of the most dangerous positions on the flight deck as the wires can snap across the deck at high speed, slicing through whatever or whoever they come in contact with.
Air wing maintenance personnel, those who work on the aircraft directly, also wear green shirts, as do cargo handling personnel, ground support equipment troubleshooters, enlisted helicopter landing signal personnel and photographers mates.
(Bold emphasis mine)
Above text from; https://foxtrotalpha.jalopnik.com/here-is-what-all-those-colored-shirts-on-an-aircraft-ca-1757896999
He didn't do this with his daily uniform on, he did this wearing the colors of the men he commanded.
As others I am sure have pointed out, THIS is why they loved him.

(11,772 posts)...it is typical for "leadership" to serve the crew Thanksgiving dinner. Or Christmas dinner. So, yea, it's cool and for sure appreciated by his crew, but I doubt the send off he received by his crew had anything to do with serving a holiday dinner. Only exceptional leadership gets you that.
