Hoping to defeat Trump this November may be a fools errand.

Trump is not just going to cheat this election, he is going to destroy the election process. I hope I am wrong, but I don't think I am. Trump is acting more and more like a dictator everyday. He openly destroys any threat, any person who gets in his way. He will do the same this November.

Where’s the press coverage from our leadership on both state and local levels? Where’s the outrage that the American people need to see every day, just like the chump does to rally his base. Why is Pelosi, Schumer et al getting a sound bite when most of the new is from Republicans. We need lengthy, fact based press badly. The free press is as much to blame Trump.

We need to fight back, and fight back hard, but I’m sure not seeing it. I’m not seeing anybody who gave the one finger salute to legally issued subpoenas being held accountable. I’m not seeing the country outraged by losing site of our government on a daily basis - flaunting accountability of $500B dollars of aid money as but one measly example.

If we’re going to win this fall, the time to get aggressive and fight like our country depends on it was the day after the fool was elected, not six weeks before the upcoming election. What the hell is Perez doing through all of this? I don’t give a dam about waiting until after the primary. We all know, as I have from the start, that Biden would be the nominee.

There’s a fine line between being a defeatist and looking at the world through open eyes. Action speaks louder than words. Defeatist, no. Realist with hope, yes.

People saying I am giving up is complete bullshit. People saying I am a defeatist is complete bullshit. Some people just like to stick their head in the sand. They don't want to hear the truth. Trump will try to destroy our election process. He pretty much said it yesterday.

I never said we are beaten, i never said we should give up. I was just being very blunt and honest. Waiting till November to get rid of Trump is insane in my opinion. There should be a nation wide effort right now, demanding Trump resigns. It's not happening.

big primary day, but what do think would happen with such an unprecedented catastrophe? The good thing about it though is it's making trump's incompetence the political highlight of the whole election season. The nation sees it and we're actually benefiting from people shut in their homes and not making any money. Nobody's working, their 401ks are in the toilet and people are sick and dying all around.

You're crazy if you think that's helping trump. There's that old adage: When someone is beating themselves, stand back and let them. We can really do much else right now with the coverage of the virus taking up all oxygen in the room.

And when was the last time an incombent got re-elected during a huge economic downturn, not to mention a huge death toll from a badly bungled pandemic responce?

The answer is NEVER.

I don't think we have a way out. I can't convince otherwise intelligent people at my workplace of the unfitness of Trump (these are folks who have Masters degrees in Engineering).

I guess throw out some math.

$6T to address this virus. That is 75 years of federal spending on TANF and Food Stamps. That is twice the amount that is in the Social Security Trust Fund. Six times what was collected in Social Security payments last year. Nearly $20K for every many, woman, and child in the US. Three times the total deficit for Obama's second term.

That and Trump, who has settled multiple multi-million dollar fraud cases, is asking that the only watchdogs over spending that money are his own hand chosen appointees.

"may be a fool's errand."

My understanding--and I don't think I'm unique in this--is that calling something "a fool's errand" means there is no hope for success, period.

If that's not what you meant to say you should edit your OP to reflect this.

I'm also depressed about our politics, but saying or even implying that it's hopeless does us no good.

What I want is to acknowledge that for all of his flaws he is an extremely tough opponent. Also he is backed by an organization willing to use every trick, loophole and deceitful act upto what the law allows, several steps farther if they believe they won't get caught.

It is going to take every Democrat to turn out to vote in November to give us a chance. It will require us to motivate the apathetic and undecided voters to support our candidates to push us past time line to victory.

Telling them the election is already decided, whether for or against, reinforces their perceptions that voting does not matter. If they believe that, they stay home and we lose.

This conspiracy theorizing is not only fucking stupid, it runs the very real risk of becoming self-fulfilling prophecy: people who think Trump will just stop the election will say "why bother?" and stay home letting the Trumpers to give their messiah a second term.

Many constitutional experts have said Trump can't stop the November election

Hillary Clinton has said there's no way Trump can stop the election.

I believe what these folks have to say and will be getting my ass out in November to vote come hell, high water or the nastiest virus known to man.

Nobody here has been calling for a nation wide movement, calling for Trumps resignation more than I have. We are waiting for the election and I believe it is dangerous to do that. There should be a nation wide movement to remove him now.

Hopefully Trump will not be able to destroy the election process, He will lose a fair election. I know he will at least try to destroy the election process.
