Donald J. Trump has consistently worked to replace capable, effective leaders throughout federal government with fakes. Actors, who play the role of leaders, but who are entirely incompetent to lead in whatever position they are appointed.
Why would a President do such a thing? There is only one possible answer: He wants to have control over everything and to be able to speak and have his wishes done without any argument. He is a tyrant.
Throughout the agencies and organizations in the Executive Branch, Trump has appointed people to "act" as if they were leaders, but only on his express directions. The result is incompetence and corruption at all levels, starting at the very top with the man sitting behind the Resolute Desk.
All of those "actors" have pledged their fealty to Donald Trump personally. They will do whatever he asks them to do. Donald Trump does not want expert advice or independent leadership. He simply demands obedience.
Now, he is replacing seven Inspector Generals of long standing. He has been doing that recently, in connection with the COVID-19 pandemic. Why? Because IGs are charged with oversight of government actions, spending, and other issues. That he is hiring "actors" to fill those roles is an indication that he plans to do things that benefit himself, rather than the public.
Systematically and strategically, Trump has altered the entire leadership structure of government, and always to his benefit. He does so with the complicity of the Republicans in control of the Senate. It is corruption at its worst.

Actually, he did, didn't he?
The lesson being that he can now get away with anything.

(146,284 posts)The complicity of the Senate Republicans is a strange phenomenon, I think. I envision a stack of dossiers somewhere in the White House - one for each Republican Senator - that contain dirt on each and every one of them. Dossiers assembled by someone or some outside organization or government. Trump might well have something ugly and career-ending on each and every Republican in the Senate, and reminds them of that whenever they counter anything he says. That's what I envision.
