Their figure from two days ago was unexpectedly low (439).

This is still well below the IHME prediction (1,433) from just a few days ago.

By August the UK is projected to have recorded more Covid-19 deaths than Italy, Spain, France and Germany combined

The point remains the same. Despite the 938 figure being a new high... all three of the last three days have come in below the model projections for that day.

Similar higher-but-below-projection deaths for the US (1970 yesterday) just caused a new revision to the IHME model. Bringing the projected August total down from that 81,766 to 60,415.
