Speaker Nancy Pelosi signaled Thursday that the House is unlikely to return to session later this month, her clearest indication yet that Congress like the rest of the country could remain shuttered for weeks or even longer as the coronavirus crisis continues.
In a half-hour interview, Pelosi issued a stark warning to President Donald Trump, urging him not to prematurely rush to reopen major segments of the country before the coronavirus is under control, which she said could further send the U.S. economy into a tailspin.
Nobody can really tell you that and I would never venture a guess. I certainly dont think we should do it sooner than we should, Pelosi said when asked if she still planned to bring the House back on April 20, which is the current target date.
This has taken an acceleration from when we started this Little did we know then that at this point, wed be further confined.

(118,020 posts)be a long haul. We are weeks after NYCity but we started social distancing earlier in the cycle than they did. Even other cycles could happen. That this was the new normal. He is not setting our expectations high for getting out of this soon.

"Hey Donald, Nancy and the Democrat Party suggest you should open the country up tomorrow"
That should make him wait a good 3-4 months...

Many companies will thereafter pressure employees to return to work without due regard for safety or face firing. Companies of all sorts will have to remodel their process methods to even function for any amount of time.
Red state companies will start cut-throat wars of competition just to stay open and increasing the temptation to increase health risks. Red states will then see a secondary rise in infections.
Thereafter, pressure will mount on blue states to ease restrictions even when it's not safe.
That scenario will work only on a limited basis because red states need blue state participation in the supply chains. Because of that, I don't think our nation can return to anything resembling normalcy until California and New York in particular, are back on their feet.
Regardless, it's going to be a brutal reboot.
Our states are not islands.......

(80,699 posts)Hes managed this wisely and provided real leadership and courage. And with smarts enough to take bold action early, OR listen to well-chosen advisors who knew enough to give him good advice on taking bold action early. Either way, hes steering California successfully through some mighty choppy waters.
The red states can sneer at California all they want. Californias going to recover LONG before they do.
I still love California.
