Coronavirus: New York using mass graves amid outbreak

[link:https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-52241221|

Images have emerged of coffins being buried in a mass grave in New York City, as the death toll from the coronavirus outbreak continues to rise.

Workers in hazmat outfits were seen using a ladder to descend into a huge pit where the coffins were stacked.

The location is Hart Island, used for New Yorkers with no next of kin or who could not afford a funeral.

The state's confirmed caseload of Covid-19 jumped by 10,000 on Thursday to 159,937, of whom 7,000 have died.

How awful for those souls to end up in a place like that. It breaks my heart.

I think the news is only that there are many, many more these days.

I don't have any information about this, but I would imagine they always wear hazmat suits, given the nature of the work. Though I DO know the work is usually done by inmates so who knows if they are protected?

Every city, every county, has a place to bury or dispose of the unclaimed dead.

You get 6000 dead, most of which are elderly, and you're going to get corpses unclaimed by the deadline. Perhaps the mate is on a ventilator. Perhaps the kids have moved away. Perhaps they have no close relatives, at least in NY. Perhaps they have nobody to claim them that knows they need to be claimed, or they're undocumented and afraid.

Mass graves are big news when there's a coverup. "Twenty people have died"--but then why the mass grave of 500 coffins?

It's like throwing an egg against a brick wall and being surprised when it breaks. There's a cause, the effect follows but is completely unexpected.
