Good job CNN, at least you're reporting some international news instead of incessantly focusing on Trump's clown show. But, well, I've seen this story about six times since yesterday. No problem, 24 hours news--of course it will be repeated several times.
BUT WHY IN THE HELL ARE YOU NOT YET REPORTING ON THE UNDERCOUNTED DEATHS IN THE U.S.? THIS IS NOT SPECULATION, IT IS FACT. NYC IS GOING TO COUNT THEM. IF YOU DON'T FOLLOW UP THE SPAIN UNDERCOUNT STORY WITH STORIES ON THE U.S. UNDERCOUNT, THEN YOU ARE FUNCTIONING AS A PROPAGANDA VEHICLE FOR THE VILE CREATURES WHO HAVE STOLEN THE AMERICAN PEOPLE'S POWER OF SELF-GOVERNMENT ALONG WITH A GOOD PORTION OF THEIR MONEY.

One can only imagine what Putin is telling Trump.

(21,319 posts)that he is cutting back oil production to help Trump win the election. No reporting yet what trump is giving to Russia.

(65,010 posts)But, nobody is really cutting production because of prices.
They're running out of storage.
Demand is down 30 million barrels per day. We've been going this, here in the US, for a month. Some countries longer.
There's a billion barrels of oil in storage, nobody needs.
This simple fact would escape DOLTUS.

(14,490 posts)This is a systemic problem across the globe. There is no common authority for data collection and there are no internationally accepted standards for reporting infections, deaths and recoveries. Every damn nation wants to be an island.
The disparity in reporting within the United States alone is inexcusable and clearly rests on tRump's administration for not establishing standards of reporting long ago.
In order to report deaths, you have to clearly establish a cause and that's where the big void occurs.....
Let's remember too, that all our MSM have strong right-wing connections and control at the top, so none of them want to rock the corporate boat.

(4,572 posts)I don't think so. Yet they reported it. The undercount in NYC has been "proven" by NYC officials. I do agree with your comments.

(6,915 posts)We all suspect the U.S.death toll is undercounted.
They suspected the death toll was undercounted in Spain, there was an issue CNN then reported about.
When similar, credible reports of an undercount in the U.S. become available, CNN will cover it.
They cannot speculate. If they have opinion people, they can say whatever they want.
But with no Fairness Doctrine there is no appreciable difference by the general public. That is the problem with all networks.

(4,572 posts)those whose died at home but were not tested. The huge surge from an average of 20 per day pre-coronavirus to 200 per day is being regarded by NYC officials and Gov. Cuomo as an obvious indication of COVID-19 deaths. Sure, each case needs to be examined. But they will not test for coronavirus in the morgue.
Widely reported by print journalists. Yet CNN reports on Spain undercounts.
This is not opinion. There is already highly credible evidence in the U.S.

(12,165 posts)Im sure CNN will report numbers that come from the governor or other reputable source.
I think your all-caps rant should be sent to CNN directly; I doubt they read DU.

(35,300 posts)Look at the 2016 dat and read what the data actually are.
Pneumonia Mortality Rate (Observed), 2016
Diagnosis Present on Admission (POA) included in calculations, POA exempt hospitals excluded
It's to look at the expense and quality of health care, *not* an official count of deaths for calculating mortalities.
Not even all hospitals are included: "POA exempt hospitals excluded".
Nursing homes and hospices aren't included. "Diagnosis present on admission". Admission to what? Hospitals.
Those who die at home aren't included. "Admission." No hospital.
And those who contract pneumonia *in* the hospital aren't cases where one can say "diagnosis present on admission".
The data are labeled--and labeled surprisingly clearly for a Texas government document.
