Then when they've gotten what they want they go right back to claiming the value as their own.

I recall a certain GA governor calling out the GANG to keep black children out of some schools.

The response was President Eisenhower to send a BDE of the 101st Airborne. The GANG commander
was told he had relinquished his command and the Guard should return to their quarters. The GA NG
Commander was a Bird Colonel, the 101st Bde was a Brigadier General. The NG had not been
federalized, however, they were neutered.

With the exception of Eisenhower, and now Truman, I left out the names of the principles. Ike, btw
had no choice but to send in federal troops. Truman had desegregated the military, and by taking
that a step further, by fiat had desegregated the nation.

We are still in challenging times, but we will persevere, we always do.

if we open back up in May, there will likely be a surge of deaths over summer that will absolutely cripple the US. Even if we remain open and basically just absorb the deathtolls, and deaths level off heading into fall, the damage will be done.

I truly believe it comes down to Trump buying into the idea it's not as bad as some have said. That's his gambit. He truly believes, as he's told by the Limbaugh-wing of the GOP, that this is just a cold. Opening things up will restart the economy and he likely thinks there won't be significant death.

Irrationalism also depends on the cult of action for action's sake. Action being beautiful in itself, it must be taken before, or without, any previous reflection. Thinking is a form of emasculation. Therefore culture is suspect insofar as it is identified with critical attitudes. Distrust of the intellectual world has always been a symptom of Ur-Fascism, from Goering's alleged statement ("When I hear talk of culture I reach for my gun&quot to the frequent use of such expressions as "degenerate intellectuals," "eggheads," "effete snobs," "universities are a nest of reds." The official Fascist intellectuals were mainly engaged in attacking modern culture and the liberal intelligentsia for having betrayed traditional values.

staying shut down. Not that I mind, of course. Re-opening the country like everything is hunky dory now would quickly overwhelm our healthcare system to the point of collapse. We're hanging on by a thread as is. Gump's plan would be far more harmful to the economy (and his re-election chances) than anything we're currently doing.

How does this shithead still not get it?!! I swear, Gump is the dumbest politician in recorded history. He's certainly the dumbest relative to the power he wields. Palin looks like a genius next to this circus clown.

Trump truly thinks his fantasy scenarios can overrule objective reality. He just doesn't get it, and it's disturbing that someone so mentally deficient is in charge right now.

We're likely see a spike in cases when states decide to ease social distancing anyway. That's assuming a June 1st re-opening. Doing it sooner would be catastrophic.

Let's play this foolish president's game for a minute.

Clearly, this president has no authority to overrule governors. But, assuming he pretended he did, what next?

Where is his police force to make us stop sheltering in place? The FBI just is not sufficiently large.

What is this nincompoop going to do? Empower ICE to drag us from our homes and make us spend a night at one of his tasteless hotels?

Just when you think this president cannot be any dumber, he manages to find a way.

Sun Apr 12, 2020, 08:00 PM

First off, I stopped watching the daily pressers right about the time that Channel 2, CBS, stopped broadcasting the presser when Trump abruptly left. Only the actual medical speakers were left, but they were cut off. Not that I believe them anymore, but I was disgusted that they covered Trump's blathering and not the meat and potatoes of the announcements. So I stopped trying to watch.

No one said anything about soldiers dragging people out of their houses. Martial law involves mostly oppressive restrictions, curfews, arrests, etc. I do foresee a time when warrants will be disregarded.

Having been a soldier, I do have an opinion on what a soldier will do when ordered to do something they don't want to do. They will follow orders, unless it is something like shooting a baby. A soldier will not disobey just because it's us.

What have you seen so far? You've seen the top eschelon of the military branches under the thrall of Trump and the office of the Presidency. The military and the Congress are all afraid of Trump and his power, with notable exceptions (like Pelosi and Schiff and others.) They are the ones who must decide to defy a Trump order and refuse to order their troops. Of course, when they do that, they are initiating a coup. And, that's a big deal. Use as an example the recent ship's captain who got relieved of his command simply for attempting to overcome a deadly virus. People said, Oh My! but he is still relieved.

I have lived through Kent State, the My Lai Massacre, etc. We always try to fix it by giving our soldiers the discretion to disobey an unlawful order. But, when you are deployed, you are off to do whatever your superior has been told to do. They are trained to use superior force to overcome any obstacle.

That's what makes these times so hard to swallow. And people are sitting here thinking that things are still the same, that the unthinkable can't happen, and that they'll wake up in the morning and it will all be a bad dream. Well, it's not. This is real, and we are in real trouble.

We are in trouble. It cannot be said enough. Trump does not plan to leave the Presidency. He is a dictator, and he would not hesitate to pull you out on your front lawn and shoot you dead.

The best thing we can do now is plan to vote in November, and overwhelming vote every. last. Republican out of office. Stick together through this pandemic, help each other, take care of each other, and never, ever give up. Every person to your right or your left is your brother or sister. Resist Trump.

How exactly would this president end shelter in place orders when governors disagree?

Soldiers would have to drag us outside.

Obviously, this president has his marks who would come out anyway. What good it would do them, i cannot say. Their chance of becoming infected, however, would increase.
