She loved DU.
She passed at my home that we shared for many years, with her four daughters comforting her.
Hardest thing I ever had to do, but the most necessary.
She was one hell of a strong woman. My best friend, my rock. The smartest, the most common sense, one hell of an intuition, full of life, strongest, loving women one would ever be privileged, to know.
She is no longer suffering, but I am going to miss her more than I could possibly express.
Rest In Peace Ma.

(102,234 posts)I know what that "hole in the heart" feels like, but I'm forever amazed now that I can see so much of my late Mom in myself and in my sister. She is definitely still with us in that respect. And I can much more readily remember a funny or happy story now after time has passed, rather than the pain of loss. May that happen for you and your sisters too and may your mother RIP.

(86,577 posts)I am glad you were able to be together for that. Many will not be able to with the virus. Virus or not, my mom will be going soon and I hope it's after the isolating s over but I'm thinking it will be sooner. Called her today to try and chat, she was lucid today so I made sure to tell her I love her, I never know if it's the last time we will ever speak.

It's nice to hear that all of your sisters were with her and you in her final moments.
Take solace in being there with your mother and helping her though her final years, as it sounds as though she had medical problems.
Caring for one's parents is a very draining task that often goes unmentioned, more so than raising children, but it really is a spectacular accomplishment and one that you will look back upon with great pride. It also speaks worlds of your selfishness and devotion to family.
I wish I could say that the pain goes away, but over time it more like buries itself, waiting to surface again and again.
