Mitch McConnell had polio as a child and received free tx at Warm Springs, Ga. at a facility set up by FDR and funded by the March of Dimes. So, why does he treat the poor so badly and why is he opposed to health care for all?

(14,899 posts)It is that simple.
Republicans are just sociopaths. There is no line of reasoning or evidence which will make them behave in a non-harmful manner. They can only be marginalized.

(23,152 posts)Sociopaths, yes. Self-centered, yes. As my hero, John Kenneth Galbraith observed, "The modern conservative is engaged in one of man's oldest exercises in moral philosophy; that is, the search for a superior moral justification for selfishness."

(53,410 posts)In many people shame turns into bitterness and hatred. I also think his nerdy look was another source of embarrassment and shame. So now hes really pissed off at the world and so hes joined the ranks of the bullies to get even. Like many cowards he only destroys those who are at a disadvantaged.

(22,756 posts)The Warm Springs center that helped in Mitch McConnells recovery was indeed founded by Franklin D. Roosevelt, who was President at the time McConnell was struck by the disease, in 1944. Roosevelt was the driving force behind both the Warm Springs Foundation and its successor, the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis, and used his political office to energetically promote fundraising for polio care and research. The funding came from the kindness and charity of the public, as well as wealthy celebrities and large corporations.
However, it was operated as an innovative, nationwide nonprofit organization, not a federal or state agency, and it was not taxpayer or government-funded. The Warm Springs center visited by McConnell remained owned and operated by a nonprofit organization until 1974, when the state of Georgia took it over, making it truly government-run. Since 2014, it has been owned and operated by Augusta University.

(3,537 posts)He is true to what he is - and this has been well established now.
Hate the ignorance and stupidity of the educational system of Kentucky that rewards people like Mitch.
Hate the racism that is part and parcel of Kentucky - and a major part of who Moscow Mitch is.
Hate the parts of this nation, the sickness that is within - that blinds us to the evil that lurks within our borders.
Hate Moscow Mitch, no, he is just a symptom of the failure of our nation to morally grow.
