(34,066 posts)Any positive test (not just the one initially approved) is now to be reported as a case.
Also an epidemiological basis +symptoms + absence of any other explanation is counted as a case.
I have yet to find a formal announcement about it - but DeWine read from it at his press conference on Tuesday.
Ohio formally had 5 new deaths today. but a bunch of reclassified ones (I've seen reports as high as 50).
It will be hard to track from day to day, since the reclassification will add new deaths to prior days that will show up as new on a day other than the day of the death.

(35,300 posts)At least to point them to any coroner's notes.
Some cases in Houston were IDed as likely COVID and the test came back positive. Of course, with the test false negative rate....
This is exactly what China was confronted with in ... late January? February? They had a shortage of tests (go figure) and went with clinical diagnosis instead of test + symptoms. Might have included some flu deaths, but all told it's not a big difference.

(34,066 posts)The cases that show up today actually belong to another day.
So - Ohio is reporting a new number (which in most charts will show up as 50 new cases). But in their day-to-day breadown the cases show up on the day of death.
That means unlike China, where they included them all on one or two days, each day is being retroactively adjusted so to see trends you have to go back and adjust the daily increase, then recalculate the daily growth rate.
