Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region Forumswith very little effort, I found this January 13th WHO press release...
Lest anyone buy drumpf's explanation that the WHO was placing "political correctness" over dealing with the virus..........
This is an official WHO press release from January 13th.
https://www.who.int/news-room/detail/13-01-2020-who-statement-on-novel-coronavirus-in-thailand
Of note, this sentence:
"The possibility of cases being identified in other countries was not unexpected, and reinforces why WHO calls for on-going active monitoring and preparedness in other countries. "
RIGHT THERE on January 13th, they were telling other countries to prepare for the virus.
I'm sure this wasn't even their first advisory to the nations, just the first official press release I found.
This was two months before drumpf took ANY kind of action to battle the virus. Except for the travel restrictions from China which...... still allowed 40,000 travelers from infected areas.
In the middle of a pandemic he is scapegoating one of the major organizations coordinating worldwide responses to this virus... because he thinks it will help his election chances.

spent a lot of time telling people not to panic. They never said dont take this seriously or don't prepare.
This idea that WHO covered something up is ridiculous. Anyone with eyes and a semi functional brain could look at what was happening in Wuhan in mid January and know that this one had a high chance of breaking out and killing a lot of people.
In early January I thought this would be more like SARS in that it was going to be easy to isolate and trace....and then they said they had confirmed asymptomatic transmission and an up to 14 day incubation period. That scared me enough that by late January I was very worried. I'm not special, just paying attention. People were yelling to get his attention on this and he was worried about rallies and Diamond&Silk photo ops.

(35,191 posts)It says that you might find somebody suffering from the disease, be ready to spot them and identify the illness.
Remember, at this point human-to-human transmission wasn't confirmed, much less that it was easily transmitted. It's easy to read back into the warning what we now know.

Like this video that aired on CBS ON 1-27-2020:
Besides, on 1-31-2020, the WHO declared the Covid-19 outbreak an "Emergency of International Concern." http://www.euro.who.int/en/health-topics/health-emergencies/international-health-regulations/news/news/2020/2/2019-ncov-outbreak-is-an-emergency-of-international-concern
That is the same announcement they did with the ebola outbreak. And that's all it took for Obama to take decisive action, here and in Africa, to snuff out the outbreak before it became a pandemic.
But Trump downplayed the announcement. He and his entire administration are criminally negligent idiots.
In that 1-31-2020 Announcement, the WHO stated:
In addition to temporary recommendations to China to continue its robust response, the WHO Director-General issued temporary recommendations under the IHR (2005). All countries should be ready to contain any introduction of the virus and its spread through active surveillance, early detection, isolation and case management, contact tracing, and prevention. They should also be ready to share full data with WHO.
We did not do that. Not even close.

(311 posts)I mean, I know that Donald Trump has been expert at playing his games to avoid legal consequences or any consequences for so long, he's very good at it. But I know I started to get worried about the virus way back when. And I'm not hired or elected or paid to do so. Just for my own self-protection and that of people who I love and even those I don't know.
How is it in any way justifiable to get a message like that and do nothing? To not get prepared. To not be even overly supplied.
No, if you'd like, through wishful thinking, for the numbers to be low, you wouldn't advocate or prepare for testing. If you've lived a life of evading and wishing and hoping and stalling in the courts, this is how you'd act. Not if you're an effective leader or administrator or governor or manager.
Disgraceful. And disgraceful if anyone allows him to get away with his name-calling, bullying, gaslighting bullshit.

(24,647 posts)The 14 day incubation period and asymptomatic carriers scared the shit out of me. I have an email in late January I sent to my boss and FSO telling them it was going to get unfathomably bad. I spent the next six weeks fighting my boss to take me seriously. Most frustrating time of my life. As my posts here can attest.
If regular folk like you and me can read the signs, there is no excuse for leaders to ignore experts who damn sure did even sooner than us.

(9,932 posts)That the information they had at that point indicated that it could not be spread from human to human.
Also easy to find on their press releases.
I'm not a troll. I just think it's fair to include the whole context

Preliminary investigations conducted by the Chinese authorities have found no clear evidence of human-to-human transmission of the novel #coronavirus (2019-nCoV) identified in #Wuhan, #China🇨🇳.
Curiously it is the same day as your press release.

There should be additional articles of impeachment this week because Trump will kill more and attempt to become a permanent dictator.

(7,392 posts)The sequencing for the virus. That is the information that is necessary in order for the proper tests to be developed so Trump had from January 12th forward to rapidly build up the testing regime. That still hasn't happened to the degree that is necessary, more than 3 months later.
It also mean that it was impossible for Obama to have caused the initial bad tests meaning it happened entirely on Trump's watch.
This is just the facts.
