If he is this much underwater in this bias poll it must be really bad!

(6,039 posts)In the last couple months especially the country has seen him as the arrogant man/child grifter even we have never seen before.
The trump GOP must paint Biden as every bit the bogeyman they painted Hillary four years ago to have any chance of winning. They had well over 20 years to do this to Hillary. The have had almost 9 months to do this to Joe and have so far failed. I don't see the next 6+ months as making major inroads.

(14,562 posts)you have the dynamic spot on.
But, they were able to ding Joe a bit the last half of last year over the Ukraine bullshit and his son.
However, Covid-19 is so all consuming they can't get their attacks on him cranked up.
They have already said they are going to use China to go after him and will crank up the attacks on his son if/when they can get out from under Covid-19.
That will be when we see how much they can dirty him up.
But, their hands are tied right now, and Joe is in a sweet spot to stand on the fray and simply be a good guy and man.
I totally get and have shared the point about Hillary being a fragile public figure (not her personally) due to decades of right wing slander.
But, this country is simply stupid as shit, and RELENTLESSLY indulges right wing bulltshit.
We just can't know how to what degree the sheeple will be programmed by whatever crap they start thowing at Joe until they can actually do it.
Side note - FOR ONCE the democratic party has to get into the game. They have to be ready to go after 45 and his grifting POS spawn over China, and other ways, AGGRESSIVELY AND BROADLY, to counter what is coming.

(2,690 posts)but not as deep, I think, as fear of authoritarianism and a corporate-fascist takeover. Trump can blow his wolf whistles and strengthen the support he already has among the dog meat who still support him -- but I doubt if it would garner him support among those who are appalled by his corporate-fascist rhetoric.
Of course, I've been wrong before, having agreed with friends in 2016 that Hillary was a shoo-in and would exceed even Nixon's numbers against McGovern. So nothing is certain.
However, I think Trump will lose, unless the Grand Old Party of treason succeeds in stealing/rigging yet another presidential election. But I have very serious concerns down the road. After Biden who? Will the voters simply revert to the same form that saw them rush to elect Nixon and Reagan and Bush and Trump again?

(48,988 posts)Keep him and Reaperublicons glued together as a brand.
Repeatedly showcasing his authoritarianism plays him against his freedom loving base. (nominally but often truly against tyranny)
Frequently drawing attention to the tax giveaways to the 1% betrays him against his populism pretensions. Especially the tax giveaways in the crisis funding.
Propaganda and counter-propaganda must be repeated to the point of nausea, almost. They have tried to nauseate their base to Hillary's supposed transgressions and to Biden's supposed feeble-mindedness.
tRump must be constantly hammered on his lies, broken promises, and especially on his Covid-19 failures.
Repeatedly.
Daily.
Often.

Here in Redville, USA, the unthinkable can (and does) become probable. Every day is Pickett's charge. They break the union lines from time to time and mostly don't even know it.

I'll give them their dreams, as they waste away to oblivion, harmless and impotent hunks of rotting meat festooned with bed sores and maggots.
(These folks, real Trump-folks, will never wake up. They are invincibly ignorant and pathetically hateful.)

(8,361 posts)was apparently intended to rebut a damning report on the front page of Sundays New York Times that detailed how slow Trump had been to take the threat posed by the virus seriously. While Trump was obviously pleased by the production he pointed to the screen with a look of smug triumph at several points he seemed unaware as it was unspooling in the White House briefing room that it contained a fatal flaw that helped reinforce the central argument of The Times report.
