What Gretchen Whitmer could do regarding nurseries.

Here in Massachusetts, at least one nursery, which had not previously supported online ordering, is doing the following:

The list their available stock on their website.

The customer enters what they'd like in an online order form. It's not sophisticated. In each category you list what you want in free-form text.

An employee gathers what you asked for and calls you. In the call you can confirm substitutions, etc., and give your credit card information. You agree on a pickup time, or agree to pay a fee for delivery.

I don't see why the nursery employees would ever have to get within 6 feet of one another.

I really like Gretchen Whitmer and don't want her to suffer more blowback than can be healthily avoided.

even though they were exempted from the lockdown. As long as you know what you want, it's not too big of a deal.

The paint store boxes up the orders and places them just outside the front door, so people don't even set foot in the shop. The wild bird supply store brings you order out on a cart and loads it into the back of your vehicle for you -- you don't even have to get out of the car.
