It was 14,820 on April 9th.

We will likely be at 60,000 dead by April 23rd or 24th.

We will soar past that low ball number they touted only weeks ago.

So 60,000 on April 23rd maybe a bit low.

12. The public health sector is scrambling to catch up to reality

It's anecdata at this point, but reports are coming in from all over about people dying but not being tabulated in any "official" count. As public health authorities move toward a standard model of counting the infected, recovered, and dead, the numbers are going to increase. There's (obviously) a political component to it all, with forces tugging in each direction to raise or lower the count, but I'm hopeful that science will win out over political considerations and we will be striving for accuracy rather than how to score political points off the dead.
