Sen Kennedy (R-LA) : 'We Gotta Reopen' Country and Virus 'Is Gonna Spread Faster' When We Do

Sen. John Kennedy (R-LA) authoritatively declared on Wednesday night that the American people understand that the economy needs to be reopened very soon and that when that happens, the deadly coronavirus is “gonna spread faster.”

Appearing on Fox News’ Tucker Carlson Tonight, Kennedy—whose home state has been one of the hardest hit during the COVID-19 pandemic—insisted that social-distancing restrictions need to be quickly reversed because “very soon, the can is going to run out of road.”

After asserting that the world economy would soon collapse if the United States isn’t opened up in the near future, the Louisiana lawmaker went on to claim that nationwide shutdowns “did not stop the spread of virus.”

“I wish it had,” he added. “But it’s too late for that. The shutdown slowed the spread of the virus at enormous cost, but it still spread.”

And this asshole is from one of the states hardest hit by COVID-19, third highest on a per capita basis.

For once, we get to see the sincere loathing and disregard that the GOP has for its "constituents", (in name only).

The plus side is that it might get through to their supporters, (and "followers&quot that their Stockholm Syndrome relationship with their manipulative leaders is not destined to work out well. I mean, it says, "Back to business! You must die for it!"

However, there is a load of Freedumb bubbling up that gives me more concern for a portion of this country in the grips of an erotic desire and need for an authoritarian regime than I have before. There are zombies among us.

All it would take is one corona virus saying, “boo!” and down goes a business. They live on wishful thinking. If only they’d put that energy to helping people.

Tens of thousands of Americans are dying and they're still not caring, i don't believe they would have listened to intelligence a few months ago at all. Sort of like the bush weapons of destruction argument. They fire anyone who speaks the truth then blame the intelligence agencies for not convincing them.

asshole - 20,000 ish people in your state have the virus. Hopefully the survivors will remember your calculated brutality.

There's been a new rule instituted, and no Republican anywhere is allowed to talk about what "the American people" want, or think, or understand, or anything else. They don't know anything about the American people except that the majority of them disagree with them and their policies. That's why they have to suppress so much of the vote.

The fact that he sounds just like Gomer Pyle adds to his appeal. Lead by example, Senator Kennedy...go back to a job where you or members of your family will be at risk.

Flattening the curve did not prevent people from getting infected ever or ever dying from COVID-19 or prevent the spread. What it did was give us time to SLOW the spread in hopes that the medical community and hospitals could keep up and not be overwhelmed.
If COVID-19 is allowed to spike and overwhelm the hospitals, Americans will needlessly die...not just those suffering from COVID-19 because there are not enough ICUs or ventilators, but other patients that desperately need medical care for other life threatening issues like heart attacks, cancer diagnosis and treatment, auto accidents, problem pregnancies, etc.
Hospitals have a limited capacity.

Once the hospitalization curve/death curve from a COVID-19 has flattened and stabilized, then gradually decisions need to be made to let segments of the country allow subsets of people to return to work while monitoring that COVID-19 does not spike again. It should not be on some arbitrary date, nation wide, the country is "open for business" and all safe practices are hereby discontinued.

Why keep paying all these people just to sit around 'in case'? I'm a businessman, and I don't like that. If we find we need 'em, we can hire 'em back, no trouble, and probably cheaper, too....
