I've been wondering about this. Hubby and I being 75 and 84, it felt like our only option was not to catch it, which we are valiantly intending to do. But these stats are cheering.
Only 12.2% of COVID-19 victims over 75 go to the hospital. And of those, only 1/4 die (not in this current link). So even if one of us gets sick, we can/should remain optimistic. Please let me know if I'm reading this wrong.
All of the news makes you think if you get it you go to the hospital. And it's downhill from there.
The COVID-19associated hospitalization rate among patients identified through COVID-NET for the 4-week period ending March 28, 2020, was 4.6 per 100,000 population (Figure 1). Hospitalization rates increased with age, with a rate of 0.3 in persons aged 04 years, 0.1 in those aged 517 years, 2.5 in those aged 1849 years, 7.4 in those aged 5064 years, and 13.8 in those aged ≥65 years. Rates were highest among persons aged ≥65 years, ranging from 12.2 in those aged 6574 years to 17.2 in those aged ≥85 years.

(3,546 posts)I think it is the underlying other health issues that are a significant factor for people are age - in how or if we might survive an infection of COVID19.
Avoidance seems the smartest approach.
