Readers thrash Cincinnati newspaper for publishing editorial advising parents to give their kids COV

[link:https://www.rawstory.com/2020/04/readers-thrash-cincinnati-newspaper-for-publishing-editorial-advising-parents-to-give-their-kids-covid-19/|

The Cincinnati Enquirer is received an angry backlash from some of its readers this week when it published an editorial advising parents to give their children the coronavirus.

The editorial in question was written by Jack Rubinstein, a physician-scientist at the University of Cincinnati, and it argued that Ohio’s current state lockdown is not sustainable and will lead to civic unrest if it continues for much longer.

As an alternative, Rubinstein proposes creating “planned, orderly waves of disease” by infecting young people for whom the disease poses minimal risks.

He acknowledges this is less than ideal, but he also says that there’s little likelihood of the government successfully implementing a nationwide test-and-trace plan similar to the ones that have helped keep fatalities low in South Korea and Germany.

This moron is a doctor??? 😳🤯🤬

Planned disease? Yup, I am planning not to get infected!

This is beyond ridiculous! We are just beginning to see reports of long-term organ damage & there is no evidence yet of immunity.

there are assumptions being voiced that because it's a virus that many folks can recover from that there will be antibodies developed. But there really isn't any reliable data on how much immunity might be created and how long it lasts. For one thing, the virus hasn't been around long enough to gather that data reliably.

They are doing those plasma transfers that seem to work sometimes, which kind of supports the immunological theme, but still it hasn't been around long enough to truly know.

The corrolary damage to the body we're reading about is definitely concerning.

His license should be pulled, imho!

This is ridiculously irresponsible, especially for a physician!

And idiots will listen to this and potentially kill untold numbers of innocent kids!

I wonder how much the rwnjs paid him to write this to support their protests? 🤬

Except for one thing: Poor leadership in the Oval Office, setting people at odds with each other and making confusing, contradictory, and flat-out wrong pronouncements on a daily basis. A real leader would be pulling the country together, not apart.

Shitler is enciting his morons this morning via twitter. Unconscionable, criminal behavior, imo.

Incomprehensible, imo, that our govt has no means of removing him while he is murdering Americans & the country is being held hostage by complicit repukes in senate. 😳🤬

Everyone's getting tired of this isolation, but if we end it too soon we're going to have to start all over again from square one when the virus comes back from the seeming dead. All our efforts will have been wasted. The light at the end of the tunnel that signals a return to pre-virus times isn't easily seen, but it will become more apparent as the measures we're observing today show up in an improved situation two, three, or four weeks from now.

But I highly doubt esp red states would do another lockdown. It's not as if common sense, integrity, or social interest is ever a factor of concern for them. 🤬
