(2,227 posts)Bill allows them to go on and on and on... As I was watching the guy, while he was on mute, Bill looked totally disgusted, but did nothing.
He isn't prepared to rebut what they are saying, IF he could get a word in...
It makes Bill look totally unprepared.
He should have a fact checker in front of a computer fact checking in real time, giving Bill the ammunition to shut them up, sending it to a computer in front of Bill. They don't have to be THERE next to him, they can be anywhere.

(63,221 posts)I wanted to poke out his other eye. What a disgusting Trump apologist. He was so arrogant and sure of himself, just like most republicans. I wanted to smack him.

(3,974 posts)And never has been. He repeats GOP talking points to attack Democrats. He gives a platform to right wing liars and doesnt push back on their lies. He is a bigot and a racist. He may agree with us on some issues but he is not an ally.

(3,974 posts)By saying hes a liberal and then not pushing back on their lies or parroting their talking points he gives them credibility. Then they can claim even liberals like Bill Maher agrees with us.
What worries me is that he obviously doesnt like Biden. If he continues to take shots at Biden as he did last night, it might give some justification to stay home or vote 3rd party.

MAHER: Lists multiple fuck-ups about being warned. "He lies about banning China."
CRENSHAW: "You wish the travel restriction should have been more extreme."
MAHER continues listing lies and fuck-ups on the virus.
CRENSHAW: "The only thing PELOSI would put on the floor ... ban flavored tobacco. People keep calling February this lost month, it's not. Italy/Spain didn't lock down till March... People accusing of blood on his hands. I don't care about defending him, just being fair."
MAHER: " 'I have a hunch' - you with your background, you want a commander blaming others..."
CRENSHAW: "Blaming China good place to start. He's exposing hypocrisy."
MAHER: "in Texas, six hour line to vote. Republicans don't want people to vote."
CRENSHAW: "The Dems are in charge of the elections. No intent from Dems either. That's always the accusation. Non-U.S. Citizens, registered, empty lots/addresses."
************It's over. I'm changing my previous opinion: MAHER was fairly much aggressive.

He's sharper than your average bloke off the street, given. But he's not as sharp as some of his guests and when they can use a rhetorical technique Maher is unprepared for, he's at a loss on how to adjust on the fly and counter.
When Crenshaw tried to say other nations didn't lock down until March, Maher should have stuck with the lack of foresight. In a world as interconnected as this, that it was beyond foolhardy to not anticipate the virus reaching the nation as it was well established how contagious it is.
Maher could have asked why anyone should expect the U.S. to be reactive only. Why couldn't we be proactive in planning for various scenarios? He could have touched on the apparent lack of strategy or tactics toward that end. He could have mentioned Trump's dismantling of the team in charge of this arena.
When Crenshaw brought up Pelosi as an impediment, Maher should have not only questioned the veracity of the statement but also the characterization and attempt to demean all Democratic input through Crenshaw's single specious claim. Crenshaw erected a straw man there and Maher didn't blink.
Instead, when Crenshaw answered the question with pivots or obfuscation, Maher went on to his next question.

I find Maher smart & and a critical ally with an international pulpit.
The Magistrate
(95,244 posts)No point pressing an argument, as it is a question of subjective judgement, with no objective standard to appeal to.

(111,076 posts)He has the right rhetorical skills.
But he doesn't have the facts or the truth on his side.
The fact is that Trump and some of his supporters downplayed the critical nature of the virus until people were dropping in this country, including most of the FOX News crowd and Congressmen like Rep. Crenshaw. They believed it was a hoax. Trump had rallies as the virus was spreading and called it a hoax.
Maher did not handle it well at all.
