As Trump Tries to "Open," We Can Refuse.

We can continue to follow distancing guidelines and protect ourselves and others. We do not have to do what Donald Trump tells us to do. I suggest we resist by following sensible practices to protect our families, our neighbors, and ourselves. Let Trump's followers break all the rules. They'll discover the consequences in due time.

For one, they can do like Florida and limit the ability of people to get unemployment compensation. Nothing says "risk you life" like a house full of hungry kids, or the threat of being evicted.

Not just that there will be flare ups, the general public is scared. The vast majority of people will not be returning to restaurants, malls, etc.

A few days ago, there was a report on MSNBC that showed the empty shops and restaurants in the parts of Italy that re-opened. I think it will be the same here.

. . .which will take the economy down even further.

Face it, people: NOTHING is going to really move us back to any semblance of "normal" until everybody can get tested, and until there's reliable treatment and a vaccine.

Just my 2 cents.

Donnie Bodybags cultists, or whose bosses are even just frightened or greedy people willing to roll the dice to keep the money coming in, may face the choice of returning to work or losing their livelihood.

And then they are at the mercy of everyone else's beliefs and possible stupidity.

The question is: Can you find a way to make a living without going to a crowded workplace? Don't say no before you think about it long and hard. What skills do you have? What do you know how to do? What are your hobbies?

Not everyone will be able to find a way, but more people than you think can find a new direction.

It is times like these that prompt people to search for new ideas. Or those times should do that, at least.

Or, you can not think about it and just wait until you can return to your normal job, if that is possible. It may not be.

Don't get me wrong. I think people should avoid it if they possibly can.

I'm just saying that you and I are very privileged and can "just say no," but that is not an option for many, many people. And this is a game of russian roulette with their lives.

The further you get behind the curve the longer it takes to catch up. In actuality, we will never catch up now, even when a successful vaccine is available we will never be over the shock of this event and will always be afraid of the next one. We had one chance to stay ahead and our government blew it off. The physical health, the mental health and the economic health of the nation is going to be a long time in healing, and we will always bear the scars.

At this time, it is like we are chasing the speed of light, the closer you come to the goal, the more energy it takes to keep accelerating, and there is not enough energy in the universe to catch up and overtake the current events.

The people are becoming bored with the virus. It has exceeded our short attention spans. The death toll is no longer shocking.
The numbers are just numbers, not people. Now Trump is using the power of the bully pulpit to goad people into pressuring their local governments to conform to his will. His tweets was a call to arms. It doesn't take much of a hint to push someone who is already has blind faith in their leader and who believe that guns and violence solve all ills. It is only a matter of time before they commit a violent act in Trump's name. When the first building burns, or the first person dies, Trump will be as guilty as if he personally threw the bomb or pulled the trigger. He is a mobster who has put out a hit on Democratic governors.

It is becoming obvious that we will try to return to normal day-to-day activities far too soon. It should be readily apparent that the actions will cause the virus to spread faster and wider. We are in no better position to fight the virus today than we were in March.... The death toll is simply a price that the business leaders are prepared to have you pay. It is liable to blow up in their faces if we have a tsunami of new cases, leading to a deeper health crisis and an insurmountable economic crisis and a further loss of confidence in our government. American business schools have failed miserably by not teaching the lesson of the Golden Goose.

The number one question in America today is, "Why are the Republicans willing to destroy the nation through inaction or improper action." What is the motive? Why don't the get rid of Trump? Do they believe that they are on a path to completely subjugate the remaining power of the people? What does the Republican end game look like? People like McConnell and Graham are not idiots or fools, so they must have evil intent; I see no alternative.

Go to one of those red states. Surround himself with those MAGA clad adoring fans. Oh, and NO viral testing the attendees before the rally. Let’s see what happens 1-2 weeks after a rally.

Seriously, I wouldn’t want this to happen, because of the potential impact on innocent people who might later be infected.

However, the media is giving Trump a platform for his campaign with the daily briefings, which I refuse to watch, and allowing him from this privileged podium to complain about not returning to normal. “Normal” for Trump is no pressers and MAGA filled rallies.

Make Trump Go First. He won’t. Never has, never will.

The economy won’t recover until people feel safe.

Also, despite the protests you see on TV, most Trump supporters support the shutdowns. And they won’t return until they feel safe, too.

Workplaces, stores, schools, salons, restaurants, most or all will re-open in the coming weeks and months--hopefully we all will be able to accurately gauge our own risk, and that of our families, and be as cautious as necessary in going about our business. Don't worry about the loons, just stay away from them.
