From update page:
Union officials told Channel 9 that the furloughs affect 43,000 workers, but Florida. Gov. Ron DeSantis said the furloughs affect closer to 70,000 of the resort’s employees. He said the state is working with Disney to get employees’ information added to the state’s unemployment system.

From article page:
Estefania Villadiego said she knew from her last day at work that she wouldn’t be back at the end of March as Disney originally said. Villadiego said she believes it will be at least the end of the year before things are back to normal. And it may be far beyond that before Disney is packed with people again. Two weeks ago, a Wells Fargo analysis estimated the predicted recovery process for Disney World crowd attendance could take up to two years.

With so many out of work, Villadiego finds it hard to imagine there will be many jobs available. Without jobs, Villadiego worries she and thousands of other families will struggle with the meager benefits provided by Florida’s challenged unemployment system that has struggled to get claims filed.

“I don’t think you can survive with $275 a week. You know how much the rents are in Orlando?” Villadiego said. Even for those who are getting help, it’s not clear how quickly they will be able to see money in their bank accounts. Since March 15, the state has only paid out 5% of claims filed.

At least that should reduce the massive crowds flooding into Florida for summer vacation season. It will be bad enough with many just going to the beach.

First, I knew it was closed. Hardly my point.
That tool opened beaches & declared WWE essential.
DW closing on their own is not going to stop him from being stupid. That's an impossible task, anyway.

But have been paying cast members since then. Guess that’s going to stop now.

that it destroys any hopes for out of state vacationers that it might re-open this season. Perhaps many will just stay home this year, which is a good thing. People on holiday around the globe were one of the initial primary spreaders of this disease and it has taken months to get everyone back home.

It may also signal that many employees will flee to other states for employment or at least the young ones will flee back to mom and dad's house for safety.

Because Florida is taking such a backward approach to other aspects of this crisis, this may in the long run be good for Florida purely from the standpoint of disease control.

I don’t really think there’s any chance that I will get to take my grandson to Disney World in December. I’m not sure how many people work in the theme parks in Orlando—not just Disney, but also Universal, Sea World, etc—but tourism unemployment in Orlando has to be topping 100,000 now. All these people will now hit the dysfunctional Florida unemployment system. Many will leave the state, leaving foreclosures behind them and taking virus with them.

This from the article:

Ninety percent of SeaWorld workers are already furloughed, and Universal has cut pay across the board by 20% through May 31.

Our long-time dreams of a trip to DW with my daughter and her family are now shattered....

It will take us years to recover and simply catch up on a huge backlog of plans like legal and medical work, home and auto repairs, etc........and then there are things from vacations to simple things like haircuts.

Same with businesses. Machinery that has sit idle needing repair, old inventory to clear out, computer systems to update, etc.

America was simply in no way prepared for any national general emergency......
