A line from the 1980 "Blues Brothers" movie spoken by one of the supporting actors playing a down-'n'-out type: a "wish sandwich" is "when you have two pieces of bread, and you wish you had some meat."
That's all donald trump has everyone: Sell the unsuspecting on wishes. The IMAGE of wealth, power, influence, sex, physical beauty, and piracy. He's a salesman of the worst kind (with apologies to all DUers and others who've worked in sales - uh - I did, too) manipulation
Oddly enough, another TV huckster, Robin Leach, had his own show riffing off the exact same "wish sandwich" theme. "Champagne Wishes and Caviar Dreams." There's that theme again.
These are VERY shrewd people. They "get" it - what America supposedly yearns for. They understand that there's a gold mine out there among the unsuspecting. The have-nots. They can play upon that, and prey upon that. It's basically mind-fucking. "I will take what I know are your deepest longings and your wildest wishes and your most desperate dreams - and I will toy with them like a cat with a mouse it's about to kill and consume." (With apologies to cats everywhere, mind you. I love 'em and have had 'em all my life! Besides, cats have animal instincts. Humans are presumably supposed to have evolved beyond that, toward emphasis on a greater good, a community-based concern, over an instant, self-fixated, need/gratification, it's-me-or-you impulse.)
