"We did put a brand-new set of the most marvellous apparel on his Imperial Body", the Treasurer Royal said during a conversation with the City Crier, adding "That was my idea. He is the Emperor and I think it's a terrific symbol to the Ruritanian public. It shows them exactly how much we really think of them."
A spokeserf for the court denied that the move would delay the city's desperately-needed bread dole, saying "we are confident the bread will be just as visible and substantial as the Emperor's attire. It's unbelievable. Literally. Anyway, it's not as if the Emperor ever paid his tailor's bills before, so this won't affect the Imperial cashflow."
Earlier this month, the Emperor looked at himself in one of his 68 full length mirrors and said "me? Too vain? Of course not. That would be a fault, and I'm perfect. I also wouldn't waste time putting on New Clothes. That would be too much like work. Trust me, when I lead the parade, you won't see anything new on me."
His Immenseness also denied knowing "too much", or indeed anything. "I'm sure people will be very happy to see a big, fat, beautiful body, and my name is on it. Two out of three ain't bad, anyway."

In further news, the Emperor's Re-Coronation Council appointed a Master P. Piper of Hamelin to lead the protests against the anti-rodent sanitary measures that ward leaders have been putting in place. A spokeserf said "he has excellent experience of leading both rats and immature, trusting, gullible, childish followers wherever he wants".
Protest funder and chief school mistress Betty DeWos commented "A thousand guilders! Come, take fifty! Don't you know how much it costs to run my ten galleons? I order you to combine the two protests into one. There'll be no health risk at all. It's just efficiency. We'll get to the end of the cautionary tale about cutting corners much quicker this way".
