(12,380 posts)Too long and involved and costly. Short ads that emphasize the disparity of Trumps lies and numbers of deaths catch the attention of the viewer. Fox watchers have a short attention span, and the rest of the world already knows Trump is not fit to run a country.

(35,658 posts)i.e., when you have a substantial amount of factual information, delivering it via audio means (even when supported with pictures and subtitles), is not the most effective medium. There are ways to get that message across, but this is not the way to do it. As pointed out above, it preaches to the choir, at best.
Images. That is how television is best used. Pictures, emotion. Not the delivery of facts.
That is the main problem with the ad, but there are many other problems. I am a former advertising executive who produced commercials for Fortune 100 companies. No more free advice for you.

(48,999 posts)There are 30 second ads and 1 minute ads. This is a long form ad.
Make the long ad, and then take a little time to make it shorter.
As Mark Twain and other wrote (paraphrased): "If I had more time I would have been able to make this letter shorter."

(95,244 posts)If the means of dissemination is social media, where it is aimed into the feeds of people who match characteristics of a person likely to vote for Mr. Biden, it may be quite effective at hardening resolve to actually act and vote.
Most political advertising nowadays is aimed at energizing one's supporters, rather than attempting to persuade even undecided voters, let alone people who support the other side.
Individualized appeals through social media are the real battleground, not broadcast advertisements. Though the latter will continue to appear, they are no longer the main engagement. We will see very little of the enemy's chief efforts, just as the enemy's supporters will see little of ours. As was observed back in '68, the 'The Selling of the President', political campaigns are endeavors in marketing, and in their endeavors, campaign media strategists follow the current trends in effective marketing as displayed by purveyors of consumer goods. Niche marketing is how it is done nowadays, and care is taken to place advertisements only before people deemed likely by advance study to respond favorably to the message.

(12,380 posts)Was that really necessary?
Ok, I take your point. Its just hard for me to imagine an audience at this point who still need to be educated and will accept it. But if the strategists have found that group, by all means.

(17,531 posts)but it is more like an extended infomercial than a campaign add. Too long to be effective to the intended audience. After about 30 seconds people are going to tune it out.

(4,006 posts)..shortened for say a 60 second ad. It could also be broken into a 2-part ad, 1 minute each, run within the same program's time frame (has been done before with a tag line on the first ad...Part II a bit later). Or, this ad, as scrpited, could be easily played on the airwaves (radio, podcast).
But as to playing to the choir, one can legitimately say any Biden ad, DNC ad, Democratic governor ad will be ignored anyway by his 37% of so cult followers. It is possible though for MAGAT red-hatters who have lost loved ones to change gears and if not willing to vote for Biden, they stay home and don't vote at all.

I love how Biden is building a team of advisors. Im not alone in saying I want a government led by experts, evidence and science rather than indulgence of the presidents Id.

(8,041 posts)hit hard enough where people (the typical non-voters) live. Not enough "Trump lied, people died" kind of hard-hitting memes. This ad EXPLAINS (in way too many words) the "trump lied, people died" meme, but it doesn't SAY it, and a lot of people are going to lose interest before they get through it.
Biden needs to get some ads that are going to kick ass. So far, all his ads are so much in the head.

(21,784 posts). . .hence the length.
For TV and radio, they'd have to have a condensed 30-second-to-1-minute version.
