GOP Moving 'Full Steam Ahead' With Plans To Hold Convention Amid Outbreak

By Cristina Cabrera

Republican National Committee Chair Ronna McDaniel said on Monday that the GOP is moving forward with its original plans for the Republican National Convention in Charlotte, North Carolina amid the COVID-19 outbreak.

“We are full steam ahead planning a traditional convention,” McDaniel told reporters, according to CNN.

She said the party and convention leadership “do not think at this time” that there is a need to shift to a plan B, “but of course, we will monitor circumstances and adjust accordingly.”

Given that the convention is scheduled to begin on August 24, McDaniel said that the party still has until early July to decide if it’ll hold a regular convention or “something scaled back.”

their voter suppression tactics. Now even their own party members are going to have trouble voting. If those red states hadn't banned voting by mail maybe they could have mailed their ballots in from hell.

likely to happen. It would look like hell if they cancelled right when Trump is stoking up the Trump Covidians. I actually hope it looks good to have it by then. If it doesn't, they won't get people to come. Not enough anyway.

One thing I wouldn't be surprised to see is their delaying calling it off for political reasons long after they have made that decision. They finally make the official announcement when they are forced to. They will waste a lot of peoples money and time if they do.

A full convention WILL spread CV-19 and will result in deaths of prominent political figures. Republicans will look bad.

If they scale back or cancel, they will look weak to their rabid supporters, who believe CV-19 is no worse than the flu. Republicans again look bad.

That convention is not going to happen as planned. The "secret" hope when TPTB decided to go after something no one else wanted being that someone other than the current president would be running. A certain ex-governor 90mi S, for instance. Oh well. #justsayin

Go party like it's 1999, and have yourselves an excellent adventure in party town Charlotte.

Have a Klan-tastic Make America White Again extravaganza. And don't forget to bring your firearms.

And thanks for thinning out your herd you f'ing morons.

I do love the way they're caught between a rock and a hard place. Either the country should open up or... it shouldn't. So what's it gonna be, GOP, when it's your own personal asses on the line?

all-star weekend a year ago. I live in Raleigh but I have been to Charlotte a bunch of times. Anyways the reason I bring it up they had a ton of security for all the festivities that were going on in uptown which is highly densely populated area of the city. Uptown is in the center of Charlotte. The RNC convention will be at the same exact location as the All-Star game. This is a terrible idea and could cause an outbreak of COVID-19 to spread. A lot of Police officers will be put as risk along with other innocent people who are not part of the convention.
