Ex-FDA chief flabbergasted by Georgia: It's like they found all the riskiest businesses to open 1st

Ex-FDA chief flabbergasted by Georgia: It’s like they found all the riskiest businesses and decided to open those first

Former FDA Commissioner Scott Gottlieb on Tuesday told CNBC that he didn’t understand Georgia’s plan to start re-opening businesses in the state.

Republican Gov. Brian Kemp announced Monday that certain businesses, such as fitness centers, would be allowed reopen this week despite the rise in coronavirus cases.

“Gyms, nail salons, bowling alleys, hair salons, tattoo parlors — it feels like they collected, you know, a list of the businesses that were most risky and decided to open those first,” Gottlieb remarked.

... my first thought was that it sounds like they're trying to lure the beauty pageant crowd, really over-prioritizing the superficial.

But then:
bowling alleys, tattoo parlors...

The tattoo er "body art" parlors was the one that really gasted my flabber.

You are are correct. How much more intimate contact can two people have than making/getting a tattoo?

Second, thing... "gasted my flabber" is one of my favorite things I've read on the internet. Thank you for that.

Is bowling alleys. They might have to bag leagues, but it seems like keeping distance would be easy.
I suppose people hovering over the ball return racks, and all that ball surface is problematic.
The other businesses inherent issues are obvious.
If I was criticizing Kemp, I think I might leave that out and focus on gyms with group workouts, massages, and the like.
The bigger issue to me is:
It seems that steps could be taken to increase safety & guard against transmission, at least to a degree. But, how does Kemp enforce it?
Hair stylist reopens & takes no extra measures. Who reports it? Who investigates? What's the penalty?
Without those plans, it's the Wild West, and the old west wasn't the Wild West!

The whole sport depends on liability insurance, particularly on the spectator side. The few specialized agents/carriers are very savvy, and no way would they write insurance cover for bringing that crowd together.

What do they care about the people who own gyms, nail salons, bowling alleys, hair salons, and tattoo parlors, or their customers?

These aren't exactly essential services.

Throw the lot of 'em into the arena to be devoured by the corona virus and who make a big fuss? Lowlifes, riffraff, unworthy to live, they are the human guinea pigs, the canary in the coal mine to test out this new Republican theory of viral epidemiology.

The GOP didn't send out any CEOs, no yacht or Ferrari
dealerships, no posh jewellery store owbers or billionaire investors made the cut. No rich folks get to be pushed out first to either sink or swim depending on the whim of this mad virus.

What other excuse is there?

This is exactly what I thought. They are being used. They are the canary in the coal mine. Sure, let's see what happens in a couple of weeks at these places.
