online.
Who posted them is unknown, but they immediately became fodder for right-wing activists attacking the organizations
Unknown activists have posted nearly 25,000 email addresses and passwords allegedly belonging to the National Institutes of Health, the World Health Organization, the Gates Foundation and other groups working to combat the coronavirus pandemic, according to the SITE Intelligence Group, which monitors online extremism and terrorist groups.
While SITE was unable to verify whether the email addresses and passwords were authentic, the group said the information was released Sunday and Monday and almost immediately used to foment attempts at hacking and harassment by far-right extremists. An Australian cybersecurity expert, Robert Potter, said he was able to verify that the WHO email addresses and passwords were real.
Neo-Nazis and white supremacists capitalized on the lists and published them aggressively across their venues, said Rita Katz, SITEs executive director. Using the data, far-right extremists were calling for a harassment campaign while sharing conspiracy theories about the coronavirus pandemic. The distribution of these alleged email credentials were just another part of a months-long initiative across the far right to weaponize the covid-19 pandemic.

But interestingly, no passwords were leaked from the Trump syndicate servers. We're looking at a mirror of the Julian Assange/Russia partnership efforts in 2016 to discredit the DNC and by extension, the Democratic Party and HRC. Particularly in terms of the timing.
I would bet good money this is the same tactic of cherry picking and edit emails to discredit those orgs who are disputing DTs' lies about the pandemic since, once again, the Democratic nominee turned out to be one that the GOP thought was the biggest threat to them in the upcoming election.
If they can't defend him, they will simply attempt to murky the waters and falsely portray "both sides" as "equally" untrustworthy and corrupt, so people on both the left and right who think that Gates, WHO et all are "establishment cabals" will feel justified going with their own confirmation bias and ignore critical thought and analysis.
And it will likely be just as effective in fooling these willing people, unfortunately.
