(62,444 posts)Kim Jong Un does not have a Twitter account and does not Tweet with a stereotyped Asian accent.

(62,444 posts)Someone downthread wants people to believe that, though.
The first Trump tweet is real.
The one telling people to follow the parody account is an image posted by the parody account so that it would get promoted by others and gain followers.

(16,616 posts)Kim Jong Un is ailing, any subordinate (or perhaps his sister) could have been asked to tweet this.
But he could also be fine and hiding to avoid the virus.
I don't actually believe the heart story. I think it's more likely he caught the virus, but because he's been saying "There are no COVID cases in North Korea" it would simply be too embarrassing to admit that, so it's a cover story of a cover story.

(82,849 posts)Yeah, that sounds like a real winning campaign slogan. Not for Trump, though.

(62,444 posts)I used to think the parody stuff was funny, but I am coming around to the point of view that it does simply promote the acceptance of things on social media as being genuine.

Trump's first tweet is real.
The "Trump tweet" asking people to follow the Kim parody account is an image posted by the Kim parody account for the purpose of having it spread on other media - just like is done here - believed by gullible people - just like is done here - and gain followers for the Kim parody account.
It is cute, but eroding people's ability to distinguish between what is fake and what is real serves a larger overall purpose.

(21,841 posts)but I wouldn't say it was a lie.
A lie is a knowing misrepresentation. What I focused on was the parody account and saw that it was not verified.
