Published 1 min ago on April 22, 2020By Matthew Chapman
On Wednesday, The New York Times estimated that in the last month, 28,000 people died from coronavirus whose deaths havent been officially attributed to that cause.
At least 28,000 more people have died during the coronavirus pandemic over the last month than the official Covid-19 death counts report, a review of mortality data in 11 countries shows providing a clearer, if still incomplete, picture of the toll of the crisis, said the report. In the last month, far more people died in these countries than in previous years, The New York Times found. The totals include deaths from Covid-19 as well as those from other causes, likely including people who could not be treated as hospitals became overwhelmed.

Except his net worth, which he wildly over-reports.

(6,423 posts)I've been aware, and it seems pretty obvious that a couple of very highly populated states are under reporting!
Funny though one ends in what sounds like ASS, and the other end sounds like DUH!

His people informed them of the incoming pandemic - and that it would be serious - around November 10th.
a) How, exactly, did they know that soon? (China didn't report anything until December);
and b) Why didn't they inform anyone else - not least, the American people.

(21,615 posts)The only thing worrying Cheeto, is that by October/November we'll still be in recession.
Like with everything else, he thinks that by just sticking his head in the sand - and forcing everyone to do likewise - he can make the problem go away.
I bet that's what he told Ivana in the late '80s - just before he lost everything.

Cheeto can ask Bush all about that.

GROSS.

(57,073 posts)And I just read a thread here that stated hospitals are not reporting. As in deliberately not reporting. How does that not result in sanctions? 😳🤯
I am sorry but I cannot recall which post / articke it was, but it seems the state is PA.

(2,565 posts)I doubt that my friend who died will be counted as COVID death until they do tissue sampling post mortem--IF they are doing this right now where he lived (NYC). Doctor told him it is probably COVID, call if ????? happens, he was gone before the ????? happened. Going in for tests is a risk in itself, not to mention the lack of their availability.
It will take years to figure out what is going on here right now. Things that have been hiding in plain sight are starting to emerge. And yet, there's more. Always more.
And now the killer pres is checking out how to start a war in Iran for further distraction.

(2,565 posts)Grief. It's a heavy thing.
SheltieLover
(57,073 posts)It might sound silly, but please remember to breathe deeply, eat & sleep. Please be very gentle with yourself & know that the stages of grief are not a linear process.
Also, I am guessing they might be slammed, but any hospice will provide 13 months of free gbereavement counseling. It is 13 months because that term carries the person through "the year of firsts." First bday, anniversary, holidays, etc.
Feel free to pm if youb want to chat.

(57,073 posts)And just a guess that hospices are probably offering or planning bereavement groups via skype, zoom or phone. Groups really help us to heal..
While we consciously know we aren't the only ones grieving, somehow it is quite therapeutic to sit in group & hear others' stories. It is called universality.
Here is a list of state hospice organizations on this site if care to pursue therapy:

(25,839 posts)It's going to be some ways down the road before we have a real handle on who or how many will have died from this.
The rough estimate will be to assume that all deaths above the normal deaths for a given time period (in this country some 7,500 people die each day from lots of causes) are from the Corona virus. In reality, all excess deaths won't be from that. But in time, statisticians and epidemiologists will refine the numbers.
Keep in mind that a full century after the 1918 flu pandemic there is still a huge range of numbers of deaths cited.
