Melbourne, Au. - four police officers die in crash

Yesterday, at around 5pm, two policemen from a suburban station pulled over a black Porsche 911 travelling 40kmh (25mph) over the speed limit on the Eastern Freeway, 6kms or so from the city centre.

They drug tested the driver and he was shown to have used drugs. Given the speed and drugs, the officers decided to impound his car and called for back-up. Two other officers arrived.

While stopped in the emergency lane, a large truck somehow drove into the emergency lane at 100kmh and killed all four officers. One was still in training, one newly graduated, the other two older, but not high ranking uniformed officers.

The driver of the black Porsche ran away but not before snapping some photos of the accident scene which he posted to his facebook account. I'm at a total loss for words both for his callousness and his stupidity. He has been identified as Richard Pusey, a fast talking mortgage broker with a criminal record and a history of driving too fast.

Not a lot of info about the truck driver right now. Various reports say he had a medical emergency but differ on whether this was before or after the crash. Investigators are trying to piece together how the truck came to be in the emergency lane.

This is a world of hurt for everyone involved.
