Child Neglect

My daughter plays basketball with a girl whose parent is a right wing nutcase... Constantly agitating on social media.

She is going to Lansing today to participate in the protest against the stay at home order. Whether or not she is exposed to the virus today, could the reckless act of intentionally congregating in an unsafe environment be an act of child neglect? She will go home and could possibly infect her children

I acknowledge her Constitutional right to protest. But her first ammendment rights can be truncated if they interfere with another persons safety. particularly an unwitting minor child.

I'm not advocating for that, but I wonder if that is a legitimate argument?

during this pandemic. There was a posted article recently of an ER doctor (female, naturally) who lost her daughter to her ex-husband to this argument. Obviously, in her case, she took appropriate precautions and the demonstrators clearly are NOT, but this is an argument that can be twisted.

I am not looking to start trouble. However, I do think that if she wants to put her own health at risk, that is her choice, but possibly infecting others is not.

So, the minute they leave home to go to those protests, they prove they do not have a reason to protest in the first place.

They are protesting the public health orders that not only advises residents to stay at home other than for essential needs like buying food, but also closed down non-essential businesses like hair salons that are probable vectors for continued spread of the virus.

Now, the protest is really stupid, completely politically motivated, and has been suggested to be supported by astroturf groups. I am not defending the protests, but the issues which the protesters have stated are not difficult to identify.

I don't like that I have to stay at home and my movement is very limited, but unlike the idiots protesting, I understand that what I am doing, is for the sake of my family and my community. I do not want to expose myself, my family, or other people to potential disease.

Also, I don't get my "information" from Fox and other right wing propaganda sites.

You could call child protective services & make a report. As far as I know, the identity of the person reporting is supposed to remain confidential, but this likely is different in various states & counties. And it could be dependent upon who knows who.

But when these people are not arrested for domestic terrorism for blocking ambulance hospital entry roads, what is the likelihood that any agency will do anything but coddle these morons? 🤬

Yes, the person filing a report stays confidential.

All reports of child abuse, including neglect must be investigated within 24 hours of the complaint.

TY for confirming. But things do not always work the way they are supposed to, esp in the south.

I sat in a meeting one day with my supervisor, a child protective case manager, 2 of my colleagues & the guardian ad litem. CPS & guardian ad litem were trying to take a young child from the mother because there was a stain in the apartment toilet bowl.

The guardian ad litem clearly stated she "wants to take the child away legally," because she wanted to adopt the kiddo.

Those of us advocating for the family audibly gasped. The cps case worker & guardian just smiled.

Unbelieveable what goes on in the south. It is like living in hell.

Most school districts (in blue states at least) have instituted some form of online curriculum and have "returned to school" with some form of daily check in, even if it's only a smartphone text/phone call and drop-off/pick up homeworke situation.
We are keeping the grandkids who are attending Zoom School daily as set up by the school. When our internet started acting up, the teacher texted us to find out what was going on as they were required to take attendance of the kids who were logging in.
Oldest kidlet actually got marked for an unexcused late last Thursday for trying to blow off school to chat with friends who had ditched class that day - their mom may have given them the day off as a treat -but we hadn't, so she still had to log on after her teacher had texted me to ask if our internet was still buggy because they were covering something important and she needed to be online for that portion of the class.

No more going to school in her bedroom anymore.... she's now Zooming out on the dining room table for two hours with her Grandy knitting nearby listening in on the lessons to help her catch up on the homework she was also blowing off later in the afternoon.
Homeschooling is hard...and I can see how most parents aren't able to handle it, especially with average kids that might not be the highly driven to succeed type of kids.

If she knew she was infected with a deadly disease and purposefully was exposing her children.. then yes..

Gathering with others, (even with those we find reprehensible in their attitudes) and then getting sick.. was not something she purposefully set out to do.

As with anything.. it is intent.. and from what you say, her intent is to be a potato head.. and while I would not let my daughter within 50 miles of that attitude. she has the right to be a potato head

it was about calling the Ministry for child endangerment because the neighbour let her teens gather with other teens.

We have lunatic anti-vaxxers in the PNW and BC area who don't have their kids taken away from not vaccinating their kids. I highly doubt anyone from the Ministry or CPS is going to do much about teens hanging out with other teens or parents taking kids to these dumbass protests.
