We live in PA and our State Stores were immediately shut down. It has only been recently that we could even have wine shipped here from another state. My husband has spent the past several weeks seeing how creative he can be getting alcohol delivered here. Dear lord you would think it was Prohibition all over again.
On Monday they reopened 100 State Stores for curbside delivery and phone orders only. Of course it is impossible to get through on the phone. By blind luck he was able to get onto their website and had 6 bottles of Jim Beam delivered here by UPS, so he spent most of yesterday tracking every move of the UPS truck. He had also ordered 3 bottles of whiskey from a small distillery in Pittsburgh and it arrived by courier last night.
Today he is waiting for yet another case of wine to be delivered from California. Mind you, we do have a couple drinks late in the evening so it's not like we drink all day. I'm sure that our neighbors must think we are raging alcoholics. We may run out of toilet paper but we are well stocked otherwise.

(38,187 posts)I wish I had now though. If I could find a way to get Everclear or vodka delivered to my house way out here in this rural area where I live, I'd certainly buy some. Do you happen to know which online sites he might be using?

(38,187 posts)I appreciate that. I wish I had bought more before Covid hit my county. I wasn't expecting that this thing could last for months and possible even the rest of the entire year. Now, I see it is going to be a long nightmare. I don't want to face that without booze. I don't know why anyone would want to face what we have coming without it. This is a nightmare that won't quit.

(5,499 posts)Fortunately in Michigan we can buy beer, wine and booze in grocery stores. My mother called me in a dither yesterday worried about meat shortages. Sadly, she is a faux news watcher, so it took everything in me not to say, "You're worried about the hoax?" But I resisted.

(8,954 posts)My go-to connection is Costco. 12# sack for under $12, Lundberg organic, California grown. I was getting low when this crisis began and did not foresee the early run on food staples. Accordingly, Costco has been completely out of stock until this week. I had used my very last cup over the weekend. Panic. Then I stopped by Costco for meds after my Monday doctor's appointment and... Hallelujah! They got some in and I'm back in business. Mother of Buddha, thank you.

(6,477 posts)We can buy both in the supermarket, including cold beer (Illinois).
We also have a ton of breweries doing curbside pickup, and liquor stores (Binny's) with massive selection and open (limited hours).

I stopped drinking alcohol 9 months ago because it was making me sick due to rising liver enzymes. I do not argue with medical science. So that's that. I loved my wine but I don't want to be sick like that again!
My opinion only, but I think PA made a big mistake shutting down its state stores. We don't have them in CT and beer is available in our grocery stores. Not wine, though. The liquor lobby in the state got that kiboshed, I am sure.

Alcohol is nice to have, but, geebus. Not even close to my panic buys. Dog food yes. Naproxen, yes. Natural peanut butter, yes. TP and paper towels, somewhat. But alcohol as a necessity? Umm, no.

(46,023 posts)We can also buy booze in grocery stores and in drug store chains. But with BevMo, I order online, get exactly what I want, and pick it up outside the store. Works like a charm, I don't have to go in, and no delivery charge.

I may become wealthy. Wild tobacco grows on the fringes of my yard, and I know how to make whiskey!
I am totally unaffected by the ready availability of drinking alcohol. My wife has one drink about every two years, I quit the using the stuff 20 years ago and our dog is a tea-totaler.

This story's more about getting it delivered several stories up or brief, brave excursions down the block. One couple has a bottle of wine plus mini bottles of spirits for cocktails delivered each day and tips $7 each time in honor of the 7 o'clock cheer for healthcare workers.
But, still widespread alteration in behavior.
