Ya know:
CA alone would be the 5th-6th largest world economy. Plus all that tech.
NYC is a global financial center.
The NY-NJ-CT region is a global corporate center.
Chicago is the center of US agribusiness, and the futures trading exchanges for grains are located there.
If McConnell and the GOP get any more cute with us in the blue states, well. . .they damn well better consider these. . .
You need pharmaceuticals in Alabama? South Carolina? There will be a surcharge.
All that construction in Louisville? Birmingham? Spartanburg? Your local banking system doesn't have the capacity to sustain it, so we'll continue lending to you...at 10% or more.
Those farms in Nebraska? Iowa? Missouri? We now own them, and you have one week to GTFO.
In short, McConnell and the GOP had fucking better well come to their senses, 'cause this is an extremely dangerous game they're playing with us; and it's not wise to attack someone unilaterally when they we have the power to ruin you, financially and otherwise.

(19,192 posts)those Ruskies can lean on you pretty hard. Polonium sandwiches, long walks off of short piers, a slender knife up under the ribs....those sort of things can get results, especially from republicans.

For all the blather about self sufficiency, most of the resources they require come from other countries

(2,216 posts)After being taxed $1 the table shows what the states get back. So the 14 states at the bottom pay the way for the rest of the states.
A lot of this goes to contractors though so a lot of it goes to the wealthy who have no real State or even National loyalty.

(19,192 posts)A few states pay all the other state's bills, right? Sounds like socialism to me. "But that's different", would be their reply. No, it isn't. It's socialism. That's how, and why, socialism works.

South Carolina, on the other hand. Yikes. That explains the reactions to Nikki Haley's recent comments.

(1,204 posts)I hear all the time that New York State is too heavily taxed. Which is true. But in the same breath, people will say, 'you should go to Florida'. No wonder there are no taxes in Florida- the taxes are coming from other states.

(22,250 posts)I notice Texas is already #28 on the taker state list. With the drop in oil prices, we will move higher up that list and officially become a taker state
Trust me, after decades of us ranking 47th-48th in the country in ever other survey of, well, everything..I am VERY happy we're 24th at something.

(26,276 posts)of the map? I ask because we all know that we spend far more on the military than we should so I suspect some of those in the Senate and House are using that to provide additional federal spending in their states.

Fort Campbell, which is the home of the 101st Airborne
Texas is loaded with military installations. If those are counted it would make us even more of a taker state

(4,291 posts)Late last year, PolitiFact published a story disproving a widespread facebook post claiming "Abolishing the Electoral College would make Los Angeles County stronger than 43 states."
The post, taken literally, makes no sense, said James A. Gardner, an election law expert at the University at Buffalo School of Law.
"If the Electoral College were abolished, presumably the president would be elected by nationwide majority vote," Gardner said. In such a system, all groups of people "would have precisely identical influence on the outcome of the election since every vote would count equally in the final tally," he said.
A voter in Los Angeles County would have exactly the same input into the presidential election as would a voter in rural Wyoming...
Except, Zuck-a-Duck, this flagged post is still in circulation. I saw it yesterday.
Fear -- just like misleading statements from MoscowMitch -- can be a very effective tool, which can easily outweigh facts for the hard-of-thinking.

Ask any Republican Senator if he is cool with THIS "balanced" budget suggestion: No state gets any more in revenue distribution from the federal government than it puts in. He'll call you a no good kommanist.
