General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsI had to take my cat, Rosie, to the vet today. They had good safety procedures in place, but the
most heartening thing I saw was that of all the people in the office, folks waiting in their cars for their appointment with the vet, as well as pedestrians and cyclists, I only saw one person without a mask. I guess those bullshit "freedom" protests at the State Capitol didn't have much of an effect. In fact, from folks I've spoken to, it didn't do much but piss people off. Selfish idiots. I think the harassment they're planning at Governor Whitmer's house will backfire tremendously.
Oh, and Rosie is fine. Turns out she's prone to skin allergies and the vet thinks she's allergic to spring pollen. Great. She loves sitting in open windows and the pollen count was high right about the time I noticed the skin irritation on her face. She got an allergy shot and should be fine. Poor little girl had to sit in her carrier in the Subaru for 45 minutes before the doctor got to see her, but she was calm as long as I kept my hand inside the carrier so I could touch her at all times. My arm went to sleep, but what else could I do? A least the hot spots on her face will go away.
Not to brag, but this is Rosie, my newest rescue kitty. Isn't she cute?

(2,023 posts)One of my cats needs to go to the vet, but I've been procrastinating because I hesitate to go anywhere if it isn't absolutely necessary. Somebody said you don't go inside, but somebody inside the veterinary clinic comes out and takes your critter inside and you talk on the phone with the veterinarian while s/he tends to your furry friend. Is that the way it was done during your visit? My cat Rose (I call her that because she's really pretty, but she has thorns) has been losing weight and I really would like to take her in for an examination and shots. She's in good shape otherwise, has a healthy appetite and her energy level is fine and everything seems to be okay, except just that she's seriously losing weight. A year or so ago she was this roly-poly thing and now I can feel her ribs and spine.

(34,360 posts)masks, gloves, and there was plenty of hand sanitizer for us clients to use. I felt safe. Clients come into the office to register then go back to the car to wait with our pet. They call us when it's time to be seen by the vet.
I hope everything is okay with your Rose. It sounds like she should be seen. Good luck!

(4,929 posts)The weight loss is concerning and if you can feel and see bones where you couldnt before does not sound good.
Get a checkup soon...please, for the cat.

(3,406 posts)My vet is open as you describe, the parents can wait in their car and do phone or FaceTime with the vet as they examine your baby.
Good luck!

(21,417 posts)out unless you have to, but your description of Rose sounds like it's important to get her there soon. Weight loss for no obvious reason is not a good sign. Even worse if the weight loss is bad enough to feel or see the ribs and spine.
You can call the vet and see what they say. If they recommend coming in, wear a mask and gloves if you have any. Be safe, and I hope all goes well with Rose

(51,444 posts)was in the parking lot and then a tech in mask and gloves came out and took him inside. The vet then called me and we discussed his symptoms and she examined him. After treatment, they called me again, read the invoice, and took my CC info. Finally, the tech brought Andy back to my car. It took about an hour. I just read DU while I waited in my car.
Forgot to say Rosie is gorgeous.

(6,096 posts)did you find it....she's a doll!
catbyte
(34,360 posts)my acquaintance couldn't take her (no pet policy) so it was me or the Humane Society. I wasn't about to let that little doll go to the shelter. I already had two cats, Sammy and Otis, and they all get along well. It took about a week of slow introductions, but they're all friendly, especially Otis and Rosie. Sammy is a tiny cat--she's only 5 pounds, so she's more delicate than Otis or Rosie. Rosie weighed 10 pounds today and Otis tips the scales at 19, all muscle. It sounds like a herd of elephants stampeding around the house when Otis and Rosie get to playing chase. Sammy just jumps up on my lap and watches them. It's great fun.

(9,819 posts)I had to take my fluffball Maine Coon, Dolly, in for her vaccinations, annual exam, plus her spring hygiene clip. Every year, March or April, Dolly has to get a little sanitary hair cut around her nether regions to keep the turds from hanging on. She seems to be grateful for this little procedure so she can get right down to the real nitty gritty of cat grooming.
I made the appointment and called the office when I got there. A vet tech came out to the car to fetch Dolly and took her inside for her exam, vaccinations, plus clipping. The vet came out about 30 min. later and gave me a detailed report on her health (great!!!) and told me the cost for the visit. I called the office and gave them my credit card # and a vet tech brought Dolly back out with her flea meds and loaded her back in my car. Every single person on their staff were wearing masks and gloves.
I also went to the health food store where I had placed an order. They came out and put the bag in my car. Then I drove to the pharmacy and picked up my Rxs at the drive-in window and got back home in about 1-1/2 hrs. without getting out of my car. I live 20 minutes from town.

(21,675 posts)Skin issues are a real problem in my 2 kitty household too. My girl, who is 17 years old, has been scratching and licking everywhere. Her head, back near tail, and 3 paws have been almost licked bare of fur. She looks so uncomfortable, but the vet has seen her and had nothing to say about it.

And shes proof of why Mark Twain loved cats more than many humans;her intelligence and character are far superior to that of the sociopathic I have the right to kill others because my guttural self centered infantile desires trump others right not to be injured or killed zombified, Kool Aid drinking protesting Trump cultists.

(3,319 posts)She has an alert look of wonderment about her. She has beautiful subtle markings in her coat. Glad she did well at the vets. My cats, get very anxious when I have to take them in the car, because they know it is something, so odd and different, that there is no way they will like it. At least one of them whines and meows, the whole trip, (I have 3 kitties.) When we get back home, We all cuddle on my bed and they for get it till next time.
