Some Republicans are complaining that the special unemployment insurance Congress created to confront the coronavirus pandemic makes it too easy for workers to do what public health officials say theyre supposed to do: stay home.
Republicans say the new benefit is doing exactly what they warned about last month ― making it difficult for some businesses to keep their workers.
The Senators were attacked in the media, and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi called them cruel. But they turned out to be right, wrote the editorial board of The Wall Street Journal, a line that was later tweeted by Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.).
I want to make people whole who lost their job through no fault of their own, Graham said in another tweet. But I dont want to pay people more NOT to work than to actually go to work.

Lindsey dear you need to get out more. Talk to anyone on unemployment. One does not get paid that much money.

(82,849 posts)Gentlemen, this is serious! If we're gonna keep our phoney-baloney jobs, we gotta do something! If the low-level workers find out how essential they really are (and how non-essential the bosses sucking up all wealth are), they might start thinking about upward mobility, and we have to control that very carefully. See, we just need one person every 7-10 years who "makes it" to show the proles. Then we can tell them it's their own fault if they're not as rich as, say, LeBron James.
But they start getting a living wage and being able to put some aside, why, some of the wealthy might see their net worth drop by a billonth or even a millionth of a percent. And that would be the real tragedy!
