The United States has just over 4 percent of the worlds population, but had about one-third of all global coronavirus cases and one-quarter of the fatalities, as of Friday.
This is a catastrophic failure that can be laid largely at the feet of President Trump. Editorial boards and politicians both Democratic and Republican should be calling on him to resign immediately.
Its not just the catalog of screw-ups that led us to this point the playing down of the threat, the lack of testing, the spread of misinformation and lies, and the government-wide inattention to the issue. Its that Trump represents an ongoing danger to the health and well-being of the American people.
Consider, for example, the strange case of hydroxychloroquine, the anti-malarial drug that Trump began publicly touting several weeks ago as a potential treatment for the coronavirus. What do you have to lose? the president asked, about a drug that had not been approved by the FDA for that purpose. It turns out the answer is your life.

Taking over for an administration in disgrace is a dead end.

Good on the Boston Globe for publishing this. Now if theyd just do an Editorial stating the same thing.
I also want to see CBS, ABC and NBC all make the same editorial statements on their evening news broadcasts. .... Holding my breath and waiting ... not really.
This appears to be an opinion piece by a columnist.
You seem to be more familiar with The Boston Globe than I am - does Michael A. Cohen represent the views of the paper?

(5,106 posts)and the Repugs had won the popular vote, but lost the presidency, do you think there's a snowball's chance that the GOP would let it have a chance to ever happen again in 2016 (or ever)? After 2016, would they STILL have done NOTHING about the electoral college?

(268,946 posts)but ReTHUGs have been stealing votes for a very long time. In hindsight Al Gore should have fought much harder but he and many Dems were too busy pretending that the system works. They and the fucking supremes should have been stopped ages ago.

(9,426 posts)Like tRump, none of them were qualified for these positions. His top advisors are handbag designer (steals other people's ideas) Ivanka and slum lord Jared. He gave big donors positions they were not qualified for. His rich buddies from Mar-A-Lardo are telling the experienced people at the VA how to run things. It has been a total disaster from day one. Most of us knew he was not remotely qualified for the presidency. Even Lindsey Graham said "If we make Trump our nominee, it will be the end of the republican party. And, we will deserve it" THAT is on tape. Then came the golf game, and little Lindsey swung around to being the biggest fan - EVER. Someday, hopefully in the not-too-distant future, we will understand just what happened to the gop. Was it blackmail, cash or business deals? Whatever, it was to benefit Russia over this country. Putin has taken over the US government, without firing a single shot, or aiming one missile. Citizens are paying a very high price for this disaster of a presidency.
