47,424 U.S. soldiers died in the Vietnam War

We've now lost more people to COVID-19.

I keep seeing COVID death numbers compared to things like 9-11.

We cannot forget the Vietnam War! I know we have vets from that war right here on DU.

That was a horrible loss of American lives. Please don't forget those folks, those who died and those who survived.

We are losing a lot of Americans. More than we lost in Vietnam due to combat. This is an astonishing figure.

Sorry, just had to get that off my chest.

I mean, for record keeping purposes, sure, but we generally don't do that as a matter of public memory. Your headline is technically inaccurate: "47,424 U.S. soldiers died in the Vietnam War." "Died" doesn't signify a difference between combat deaths and "other cause" deaths (never mind that many of those who died weren't technically "soldiers," but Marines, sailors, etc.

I wouldn't separate those if part of your purpose is to honor those who served.
