We've now lost more people to COVID-19.
I keep seeing COVID death numbers compared to things like 9-11.
We cannot forget the Vietnam War! I know we have vets from that war right here on DU.
That was a horrible loss of American lives. Please don't forget those folks, those who died and those who survived.
We are losing a lot of Americans. More than we lost in Vietnam due to combat. This is an astonishing figure.

(6,477 posts)I mean, for record keeping purposes, sure, but we generally don't do that as a matter of public memory. Your headline is technically inaccurate: "47,424 U.S. soldiers died in the Vietnam War." "Died" doesn't signify a difference between combat deaths and "other cause" deaths (never mind that many of those who died weren't technically "soldiers," but Marines, sailors, etc.
I wouldn't separate those if part of your purpose is to honor those who served.
