Coronavirus in Tennessee: Restaurants reopen as Sunday marks highest jump in new cases

Restaurants to reopen around the state today

Restaurants in many parts of Tennessee will be allowed to offer in-person dining starting Monday, though the state is asking establishments to limit seating to 50% capacity and have workers wear protective gear.

Retail stores can begin reopening on Wednesday under similar precautions, Gov. Bill Lee announced last week.

Lee announced the various forms of guidance, dubbed the Tennessee Pledge, for businesses on Friday as part of the state's overall effort to begin rebooting its economy while still grappling with the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Under the state's plan, restaurants are asked to require employees to wear gloves and masks, use disposable menus, have a maximum of six people per table and limit overall occupancy to 50% capacity.

reopened, at the insistence of industry, not medical reasons.

I think that as some have advocated here in these postings, be very alert, be very aware, stay at home/isolated still. The danger is still there.

To back me up, go read articles on the Italian situation/history, in dealing w/ the CV. It's is a somber read, and eerily highlights what trump/others in his admin. are doing today, that matches some of what Italy did wrong in the first days of the epidemic. Ignoring calls to isolate, ignoring warnings by medical professionals, opening businesses up (a decision made by business and not the medical experts, like what is going on now in the US).

Prepare for more deaths to come, from lingering CV deaths and a new wave of CV illnesses and death. Hate to be the bearer of bad news but I am not the one advocating opening up the beaches, opening up business as usual, etc. It's all republicans. Money first, lives last.

Which means most people with COVID symptoms wouldn't be filtered out by a thermometer, and it's likely more people without COVID would be than those with.

Then there's the 30% or so of people infected with COVID that just don't show any symptoms.

If you're detaining all those with fevers for testing and observation--and are okay with putting somebody with the flu in the same ward as those with COVID--then it's a good suppression strategy. A bit harsh, because it's a death sentence for the guy with the flu, but utilitarianism could find a justification. Greater good, sacrifice by individuals, etc., etc.
