Posted live to Facebook by Tink Purcell, the video appears to show people partying and listening to music while standing shoulder-to-shoulder inside a home in the early hours of Sunday morning.
While some people in the video are wearing masks, most are not, and everyone in it is breaking social distancing recommendations issued by the state to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

While most Chicagoans are doing their part to prevent the spread of COVID-19, reckless actions like these threaten our public health and risk erasing the progress we have made. We will hold those responsible accountable, Lightfoot said.
Chicagos West Side has been hit particularly hard by the spread of the coronavirus disease, statistics from the State of Illinois show.

Just fucking lovely. GO figure why the statistics are what they are.
Idiots.

(14,854 posts)Most of the people who die from the Covid are old, so this doesn't prevent them from reproducing. They've already done it, or not, as the case may be.

(10,749 posts)is that we'll not really know the outcome of this gathering. How many will get the virus? How many will die? And how will we know? Maybe there will be an uptick in Chicago cases, maybe the uptick will be somewhere else. And what if there's no effect? What would that mean?
Let's go back to Easter. Has there been any reporting on increases in cases in communities that held large Easter gatherings? What about the Kentucky governor's assertion that they would take down license plates and track outbreaks as a result of attending services? Any reporting on that?
Stuff just happens and heads into the memory hole instantaneously. Trump recommends injecting lysol and is mocked mercilessly worldwide for a few days. Now? Just jokes.
Maybe there's a lesson here. Get him to say increasingly stupid shit (as if that's a challenge for him), mock him mercilessly, and then have him say he was being sarcastic, just joking. So that this becomes a "jusk joking presidency" meme, maybe for a few days, maybe as a campaign issue.
In any case, with no one seemingly on top of anything with COVID-19, it feels as if we're drifting aimlessly in uncharted water, no power, no control, awful weather, water seeping in everywhere, the radios are out, and the captain abandoned ship on the only lifeboat.

(9,998 posts)I have the ability to control if/when I go into my office, and am mostly working from home. If I need to continue this way for the rest of 2020, I can more or less do so.
I am not going out unless I absolutely have to. I see people heading to the beaches which are a 20 minute drive from me, but there's no way I'd go anywhere near them right now.
If I had to sit in my condo and watch people outside get infected going about their lives, that is what I will do.

Georgias ridiculous opening may provide more statistics than we want to see. Time will tell.

(15,769 posts)Is that many pastors died but not the flock which is kinda weird. But maybe because the pastors hugged every person. Who knows. Well have to keep a close look at California beaches as well since tens of thousand showed up this weekend.

(33,310 posts)I saw a LOT more people out this weekend: walking, jogging, biking, grocery shopping. I was one of them. I wore a mask when it was appropriate and distanced, but still... I was in public.
The lid is going to slip.

(15,936 posts)Not COOL! They probably have an idea if they are carriers, and whether or not they have and will continue to spread the virus.

(35,300 posts)Better non-white and sick at 20 than white and sick at 60. The numbers broken down by demographics are horrible, but once broken down by race/ethnicity you still have to break them down male/female and then by age. The risk of death is sharply intersectional.
The age 0-30 group has less than 1% of the deaths, pretty consistently.

(15,936 posts)I just can't support people's decisions to social partying when they have no idea if they are carriers. Race and age matters not!
