Trump slams cities, states seeking U.S. aid to offset coronavirus losses

U.S.APRIL 27, 2020 / 11:19 AM / UPDATED 3 HOURS AGO

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump on Monday slammed U.S. cities and states seeking billions of dollars in more federal aid to offset huge losses amid the coronavirus outbreak as lawmakers spar over the next round of potential economic relief along sharp party lines.

Democrats are calling for more aid to help beleaguered municipalities left out of recent stimulus measures. But some Republicans have balked at the price tag, while the Senate’s top Republican said he would back state bankruptcy before giving them more U.S. funding.

“Why should the people and taxpayers of America be bailing out poorly run states (like Illinois, as example) and cities, in all cases Democrat run and managed, when most of the other states are not looking for bailout help? I am open to discussing anything, but just asking?” Trump, a Republican, tweeted.

Mayors and governors have spent billions in recent weeks as U.S. coronavirus cases topped 960,000 and led to more than more than 54,700 COVID-19 related deaths as of this weekend. Social distancing and stay-at-home orders implemented across most of the nation to curb the spread of the highly contagious virus have also triggered a surge in unemployment, curtailed consumer spending and depressed local tax revenue.

Let's talk about the welfare states, because that's what they are and needs to be made a prominent issue when it comes to federal aid. Since McConnel is the Welfare State King, he's in the hot seat, not the blue states and Governors.

Then, we can talk about the "worst" states as I would call in them in regards to the current, critical pandemic we are deeply immersed in right now. The worst states are going to "reopen" prematurely when that flies in the face of the expert medical and scientific recommendations. The worst states, being next to states that are complying, making sacrifices and doing their best for he good of us all should not be doing it alone or in vain.

Viruses don't know what a state line is and proximity means spreading it if some feel they are an exception here and that this is almost over. It can't be over if protesters and states don't comply. The worst of the worst are proving to be very detrimental to themselves and others.

bigoted, mindless conservatives will never consider let alone acknowledge facts. They will never give up the electoral college, they will never accept fair elections. Why don’t we blue states mutually cede and form our own Democratic USA? This is just a muse on my part, but sometimes it seems like a reasonable response to the absurdity we are being forced to live with today. We’re the blue states to do that, the red states would likely come running home one by one as they slowly painfully come to grasp with the situation they ultimately created.

It won’t happen, but it’s an attractive fantasy ... especially now.

I will just stay on the farm.

No mall or movie theater for me.

Cannot force me into going to a crowded place.

Asshole just wants people back to work.

Blue states provide funding that is used to help run Red states on a DAILY basis.
