General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsI'm fed up with the MSM baiting Fauci and Birx.
They're so fixated on the conflict that generates profits that they don't use their time with F and B to find out stuff about the pandemic. Instead they push and push and push, trying to get them to say something that will probably get them knocked off the stage, if not out of their jobs. When they're being interviewed, don't ask their opinions about Trump!!!!!!!!!!!!
Lots of DUers are angry at them for "enabling" Trump. How ridiculous. Trump doesn't need them to "enable" him. If they fell off that narrow path, who do you think would disappear? It wouldn't be Trump.
Leave them alone so we can hear what they want to tell us!!
Google news headline. "Trump is driving Birx to a tough spot. It's about to get even toughter." Jake Tapper is the co-pilot.

(11,612 posts)Fauci seems to do a remarkable job walking the tightrope of getting out meaningful information and keeping his job to fight another day while maintaining his scientific integrity. Birx not so much. She's a Trump apologist at the expense of the truth.

(13,769 posts)... public diplomacy? I agree that Fauci is amazing. But, come on, how can you require that kind of gift of every scientist we count on? She's never given us false information.

(11,612 posts)That isn't public diplomacy and it isn't science, its politics.

(13,769 posts)MSM should do their jobs, not ask Fauci and Birx to give them juicy headlines.

(12,960 posts)For example:
The role of the press is to ask hard questions and refuse to be deterred even when someone powerful claims, Nothing to see here. At first glance, it might seem as if the press is a destabilizing force: It can undermine the credibility of our elected officials and ultimately our confidence in government. It can drive down stock prices and embolden our nations critics and enemies. It can uncover inconvenient truths and stir divisions within our society. But our Founders understood that long-term accountability is more important than short-term stability. Where would America be without the muckrakers of the progressive era, like Ida Tarbell, who uncovered the perfidy and immorality of the Standard Oil monopoly under John D. Rockefeller; without The New York Times publication of the Pentagon Papers, which exposed the lies around the Vietnam War; without the dogged work of The Boston Globe in documenting sexual abuse within the Catholic Church? Because of the press, powerful institutions were held accountable for their actions, and we became a stronger nation.

(13,769 posts)Asked by CNNs Jake Tapper if Trumps comments from the Thursday White House briefing bothered her, Birx said, I think it bothers me this is still in the news cycle.
How about, "Dr. Birx, what are the effects of injecting or injesting disinfectants?"

(3,180 posts)We here at DU seem to be conflicted sometimes. We know that the Orange Man is stupid, but we want everyone to fight him. As you said. It's not F and Bs job to do that.

(32,626 posts)not what the public needs to know. Typical. Their priorities, as a whole, are in-line with the GOP. Influence and power.

(58,785 posts)The focus makes it clear Trump is the intended fall guy if they have to have one, concentrating all blame on him, while Republicans remain in power in congress and state governments. Fauci and Birx make great targets because they're outsiders whose ruin would not only cost the Republican leaders absolutely nothing but further their anti-science, anti-reason agenda.
