The novel coronavirus just isnt so deadly! Thats the conclusion Fox News host Tucker Carlson came to in a monologue Tuesday night.
Its not that social distancing and enforced business closures have slowed the virus, Carlson said COVID-19 just isnt as bad as public health officials say it is.
You may remember what they first told us back in February and March, Carlson told viewers. They said, we have to take radical steps in order to, quote, flatten the curve. Well, six weeks later, were happy to say that curve has been flattened, but its likely not because of the lockdowns. The virus just isnt nearly as deadly as we thought it was.
Carlson didnt provide much in the way of evidence.
Introducing his argument, the Fox News host cited a recent news conference from a pair of California doctors and urgent care clinic owners who concluded based on testing numbers at their clinics and the states relatively low number of deaths that the threat of COVID-19 had been over-hyped.

As owners of local urgent care clinics, it appears these two individuals are releasing biased, non-peer reviewed data to advance their personal financial interests without regard for the publics health, the organizations said in a statement.
Carlson, criticizing the assumptions of political leaders, nonetheless made a few whoppers himself.
Our national quarantine hasnt worked in the way they told it would, he said at one point Monday. But youd never know that from listening to the people in charge.
And as an added caveat Tucks.................may I call you Tucks, not the stuff you put on your ass for hemorrhoids..............isn't your organization in a lawsuit for spreading misinformation like you did ...............you quite didn't add this part of information on your show..........or the simple fact there Tucks, that your lunatic orange hair asshole couldn't have been bothered to read the PDB........ and in what way did your right wing party standing at a podium do to help the public..............Oh, I know, they take gloves and masks and then sell them to the highest state bidder..........you POS................ .
"Left unsaid by Carlson: The doctors have been emphatically condemn[ed] by the American College of Emergency Physicians and the American Academy of Emergency Medicine for their reckless and untested musings that are inconsistent with established epidemiology regarding COVID-19."

(12,712 posts)We are in an early phase of the virus in many ways. This is not an end point AND there is a lot we have to learn in retrospect.
The numbers on total deaths in the country are much higher than they should be. Due to "tag and bag" and the trumpian lack of preparation and testing, (a President who says he is not responsible is not a President) we can only assume right now that the death toll is higher than is being reported.
More study needs to be done on that front, but it is worth noting.

Also, do you even know what "flatten the curve" means? Or is it just something you're parroting? Why don't you crawl back under your rock?

No one who holds the real power of decision making in this country gives a damn about anything but short-term profits. Fox is their connection to the masses. They are convincing a man who's clothes are on fire, that all he needs is more gasoline.
The Republicans may have killed the goose that laid the golden eggs, now they are just trying to divide up the carcass.
