Just happened to come across this:
Because the post office has become a desperately needed lifeline during the coronavirus crisis, Bee announces near the end of the segment that her show is doing its part by producing its own custom stamps and giving them away to viewers, for free, starting at 10 p.m. ET on her website.

It's no different than if you bought stamps at the PO and gave them away. Still benefits the PO.

(10,885 posts)Anyone buying regular $.55 stamps pays $11.00 for 20 stamps.
For every 20 stamps she gives away, the Post Office gets an ADDITIONAL $14.99.

(10,885 posts)When my grandchildren were toddlers, I had custom stamps made from their photos to give to their parents as a cute gift and kept some for myself.
None of us have ever used them!
(Of course, these are made up with Bee's logo/whatever, so not quite as special to the person receiving them.)

(10,885 posts)The Post Office gets their money up front when they're ordered, no matter who uses the stamps.
She's giving them away for free to the public, but they're already paid for by her show.
*Not accounting for bulk pricing that is available.

(10,885 posts)The Post Office already has the money.
Look at it this way:
Your sister gives you a gift from Macy's.
You use the gift for free.
Macy's was already paid by your sister.
It didn't cost you anything, but Macy's has their money.
Samantha Bee is giving you a gift. She's already paid for it.
K?

(53,743 posts)she kept the stamps herself and encouraged others to buy stamps.
Getting free stamps means you don't have to, and thus support the PO even more with purchases.
