Donald Trump threatens new tariffs on China

US President Donald Trump said his hard-fought trade deal with China was now of secondary importance to the coronavirus pandemic and he threatened new tariffs on Beijing, as his administration crafted retaliatory measures over the outbreak.

Mr Trump's sharpened rhetoric against China reflected his growing frustration with Beijing over the pandemic, which has cost tens of thousands of lives in the US alone, sparked an economic contraction and threatened his chances of re-election in November.

Mr Trump also made clear that his concerns about China's role in the origin and spread of the coronavirus were taking priority for now over his efforts to build on an initial trade agreement with Beijing that long dominated his dealings with the world's second-largest economy.

Just how much more do we have to pay out for this?

You might as well call his Tariffs a piss on Americans tax and of course, it hits middle and low-income folks the worst.

Either he knows this and its just a sign of more Republican loathing for the people, or he doesn't get the Tariff thing. If anything, it is supposed to help American companies by way of competition, but in reality, how much of what we import from China do we make?

The devil is in the details, (and in the White House) as always.
