We've adapted to past pandemics quite well.We change behaviors to increase our safety and block risks. Economic changes always happen first. Changes that protect staff and confidence in production & distributing. Consumers demand these simple changes, as they have the greatest impact. Science based adaptations, after pandemics, have greatly expanded how we care for ourselves and our societies with better drugs, better treatments and greater efficiency in delivering health care. Does anyone think that our hospitals will ever be without emergency supplies in the future? We will tolerate politicians who do not put our national health first? I don't think we will see the partisan avoidance, we see today.
Americans are rightly pissed off, that frontline responders do not have masks, gowns or gloves. This is a basic necessity, and having emergency supplies available is something we took for granted. Voters will elect those who put health first and the economy second. No workers...no economy.
Wall Street's 'health investment advisors' and cable news pundits are not going to have much influence, long term, as they are partly responsible for the pandemic's rapid spread. Guessing and wild speculation are falling on deaf ears.
The changes will come, because we, as individuals, have far more data available. Before the internet, we had only newspapers, which are still the most reliable sources of fact based reporting... and FCC-regulated air broadcasts on TV and radio.
Our greatest potential, as individual consumers, is our ability to weed out the opinions from science based fact.
I am still not sure why anyone would take a TV personality's opinion over that of actual scientists, but they do. Reporting on what these TV personalities say is only represents a tiny part of our population, but the media has found it to be the least costly to report on. Wall St strikes again. Murdoch is fake news, he invented it.
The FoxNews style...."He said, she said"... is not reporting, it's parroting.
News, in print and over the air TV, are required to follow strict laws to validate reporting. Google the 1934 FCC Communications Act.
Cable news does not follow that FCC Act. They don't have to. Cable is, by law, defined as subscription entertainment only.
Nothing on any cable news is required, by law, to validate anything with two credible sources on the article topic. Op-eds abound on cable news, but some still think it is actual fact, ( well, at least alot of FoxNews viewers think it's fact). It is not.
We can and will learn, how to learn, better.

(10,090 posts)When its clearly labeled opinion or entertainment I dont mind. It bothers me that people search the depths of the net to find something that supports their wingnut ideas. Talking to my son who is 19 I get the impression that the youngsters arent such suckers. They know not to believe everything on the internet so Im hopeful about that and also hopeful trump isnt too popular amou in ngst the young. Since the rethugs are doing their best to kill off older people they are shooting them selves in the foot.
My friend has sent me a lot of clips that question whether the pandemic real or at least is misrepresented. To be honest I dont usually watch, or stop after a bit. People who are doctors are producing all sorts of crap. I guess its legit for PhDs and others to use their titles, but I always check what sort of doctor they are. Many times I find they arent medical doctors though depending on the subject matter other kinds of scientists have good info. With an infectious disease, thats a specialized area of medicine. He sent me an article from a DO the other day. Ok, thats a medical person, but he was pushing the idea that the virus hadnt been proven and talked about the testing involved. When thousands of infectious disease doctors are in agreement Im not going to take what a DO neurosurgeon says when he claims its all a hoax. Im not really sure what my friend thinks; he is taking all the precautions and I really dont care to know exactly what he thinks because Im sure its some conspiracy crap.
