My friend's grandson takes issue with my f.b posts

I have posted Ohio Dept. of Health Covid-19 updates every day for the last couple of weeks. The young man has been posting about the right to wear a mask or not. Yesterday, he replied to the update and said if you post negative things, guess what, you'll feel negative. I told him to scroll on by, that I was posting to acknowledge the suffering and losses.

Today, he private messaged me and gave me alternative numbers he got from CDC (?) that shows the confirmed cases and deaths are much lower and the media is lying. I am using Worldometer, WHO, and the Washington stae teenager's Covid-19 tracker, along with the Ohio Department of Health's Covid-19 update and Cleveland.com Covid-19 interactive map as my resources. The only time I listen to MSM is when I'm visiting my friend and she has it on.

In our county, a large and popular nursing home has been hit with Covid-19. The 2 deaths I heard of were local and the victims were residents at that nursing home. Most of the cases in our county are in that home and I'm sure there will be more bad news to come. Anyway, in reply to his message, I sent him this:

"90% of the media is owned by 6 big companies, mostly conservatives. I stopped listening to MSM years ago and I never listen to faux news..I love conspiracy theories the same way I love fairy tales. They are entertaining, might have some truth to them, but not as written. As I said, I refer to to other sources. That being said, why is it so important to you to dispute the numbers? This last week, I learned that on of my daughter's friends lost his 95 year old Grandma to Covid-19. I learned yesterday that one of my neighbor's uncles died. Had Covid-19. My niece had it, took her weeks to get better and she's healthy. One of my friend's daughters is a nurse in Columbus. She got Covid-19 right before Easter and she is still recovering. Like me, she has asthma, and the virus nailed her good. She is in her 40's , same age as my daughters. The virus is out there and it is coming for anyone it can infect. That's what a virus does. A virus is as opportunistic as any shopper after toilet paper. So you can bet the farm I will avoid going out, if I go out will wear mask and gloves, and will decontaminate when I get home. I had pneumonia 2 times, headed it off the 3rd time. That by itself was debilitating. I hear that Covid-19 turns your lungs into bloody soup. Even if you live, you have pulmonary scaring that doesn't go away. Not only will I wear mask and gloves to protect myself, I will wear them to protect others. Anything I do is entirely my right, but it is my responsibility to consider how my actions will affect others. No man is an island."

I remember seeing that they lagged. I don't refer to CDC because I no longer trust them.

I have now seen this spreading all over.
It's false. In fact we likely have more than 67,000 deaths.

I am completely out of patience with cretins like this, and apologize for descent into the vernacular.

Glad I did not catch the mood wrong. It will not come up, but this is certainly something I would cut a family member, even, dead over. Permanently.

The vernacular, well deployed, has a rhythm and punch all its own.

by those who want to downplay the impact. I've seen numbers around 35000 quoted by them.
On their page, they have it at 64k at the moment so I don't know what subset they are thinking of. Probably playing around with some numbers to determine which case was "really" a death due to the corona virus.

What’s interesting is she never used to put political stuff on at all. First it was some Copy and paste “defending” Trump, then this covid deaths dispute from the CDC. She got a lot of pushback, as these people are misinterpreting numbers and will not admit when they are wrong

I muted her, cause it’s annoying.

He needs to see the information. It must be bothering him or he wouldn't text. I rarely have any contact with him and he started this conversation.
I know it is uphill because he seems to have taken a stupid pill, but hoping I can say something that'll will bring him to his senses.

I have gotten several "Debate Me" demands on social media sites, my response is "Naah, I'm not interested in googling info for you. I answered the first question/statement and I'm done."

Often that gets a whiny ass paragraph of why I owe/should respond. Occasionally, I reply with a short descriptive, intensity of that reply depends on my mood.

Sounds to me that your friends grandson is in "Debate Me" entitlement up to his chin, you are not required to play or respond. He knows you are his Grandmother's friend, that sure implies a troll in training.
