Is anyone else having trouble with depression?

Today is the first time I have started to feel really down.

I am going into month 3 here in KCMO. And I really miss the library.

But I am one of the lucky people. So far I am not really affected by all this. I am able to pay my bills. No one I know is sick. Lots of people's jobs are in limbo but I am hoping that will work itself out over time.

It's just getting so boring. And the constant negativity from the news is grinding me down.

Don't feel guilty because you are "lucky." This is impacting all of us in different ways for different reasons. You are entitled to feel sad.

I understand where you are at.

Yesterday, I spent most of my time watching stupid funny YouTube videos and funny pet videos in an attempt to ease up on the negativity.

I hope you feel better soon.

Like you, my only real problem is the boredom, and I'm grateful for that. When this all started, I was watching MSNBC from about 12-8pm. Now, I have pared it down to just Rachel and sometimes Lawrence. I just can't bear to watch any more than that - it's just too soul-grinding. It is helping a bit. Prozac takes the edge off too.

I cut down on my news watching and have opted for old TV shows and streaming series on Netflix and Amazon Prime. Even that has been a bit much, so now when I work out in my basement I leave the TV and radio off. I use to think I needed one of them on. Between trying to entertain myself and doing all my work online, it helps to avoid screens when they aren't necessary. The one piece of news I tend to watch at lunchtime during the week is Gov. Cuomo's daily presser, which is actually more comforting than disturbing, even when he has bad news, which is always, but he gives one the sense that this is all manageable.

Which plain old sucks and adds to everything.

We have to prepare for summer like people way up north prepare for winter. Did I do it during the winter??? No.

I have so many leaves to get rid of under my deck that it's a log jam. It's in the high 90s here. I've also got tons of weeds to get rid of. And it's so damn hot. I've got debri in gutters and stuff like that. We also had major repairs to the house and in that process all the garden hoses and timers were removed.

Can I just run to Lowes and just grab supplies? No! (Well I can, but I would rather do curbside, which is a PITA compared to the way I used to do things) So, everything is just a PITA.

Just going to the store is a hassle.

I went to Walmart this morning and modt people were wearing masks. Nobody was acting stupid. I try to get out at least once a day. The mornings are fine. It's the long afternoons that drag me down.

I am not sleeping well. I have strange dreams and wake up over and over.

Being inside alone (with my dogs) all the time is affecting my concept of time.

but this week we got confirmation that our family cruise that 6 siblings and our families have all saved for a couple of years is definitely off. AND to make matters worse, the next week the cruises are back on.

Yes we will get the option to re-book or get our money back. However, my oldest sister won't be alive next year.

This was supposed to be a huge "last blast" kind of thing. My sister is dying and they have no money so the rest of us 5 sort of included their cost into ours.

When my sister dies we are going to turn our backs on her worthless molesting husband

Although I think my reasons are different. I stopped "looking at the news" about 2 weeks ago, and now I'm forgetting how serious this is and am itching for normalcy again. For myself it would have been better to be told "lock yourself up" for a year. No problem, that I could handle as opposed to this slow easing into things.
I rather deal with it right now, digest it, and adjust my life. Everything changing one day to the next has made me anxious, afraid, and depressed.

every week that can add to more adaptation and worry. It's the nature of the beast.

I'd rather have known what the deal was early on, and I think many knowledgeable people did see what's coming. They had knowledge of other emergency and virus situations in the past.

In the first decade or so of Y2k I was absorbed in big life transitions and also helping aging parents. So I wasn't following so much news, esp. 9/11, Katrina and illnesses like SARS, H1N1 and Ebola. I've been catching up, but it takes time.

Uncertainty is something I really dislike, yet we have no choice but to be flexible, try to have faith and cope in many situations.

They are talking about the latest tweet or meltdown from Trump. Everyone is outraged he can't do that yada yada yada but he gets away with it. It's been going on endlessly for at least 4 years. I get caught up here on DU otherwise I just block it out until November. I have donated money to Biden the last 5 months. I hope he wins but it won't end it will be a constant battle with the Republicans. I have pretty much ODed on all the bullshit.

You have a lot of company. I have plenty to do, and plenty of time and the necessary resources to do them. I am finding it harder and harder to get started. I think one of my biggest problems is what I am doing right now.

At the beginning of the crisis, I was afraid to get away from the computer for fear that I may miss a timely opportunity to do something to improve my positioning for the virus. It is so easy to sit here and read and type and so hard to get off my ass and go do something productive.

In fact, now that I mentioned it, I think I will stop and go fix a nice dinner.

Thank you!

Laid off people that losing benefits. People with no rent money or utility money.

Some of my friends just got hit with a sledge hammer. They had no warning at all. And trying to find a job right now and for the near future will be almost impossible.

I really worry about them.

I was MORE depressed when I was working, being exposed to some Trump cultists at my workplace. Some of the stuff they said made me feel like I’d entered The Twilight Zone.

I usually get hospitalized at least once or twice a year between now and August. There are a lot of anniversary dates of events I was a part in Iraq, 2004.

However, this year, I’m feeling great and optimistic. Self isolation is my usual state, so it’s not a problem for me. I had a confluence of recent changes to my life situation and my finances and debt situation is rapidly improving.

I finally have extra spending money and I’m dumping it all into a hobby of mine that I haven’t been able to do for the last decade. In a few months, I plan to ditch the 2003 VW that I drive and buy something significantly nicer and I’m toying with the idea of buying a piece of land and building a house.

I’ve never felt so excited about my future before.

That all being said, I am still taking 6 different psych meds and attending virtual psych appointments 2-3 times a week

some days I just wanna stay in bed and hide, read something useless and just blow off things. Some days I get excited to clean off the deck for the spring and try and make something happen in the yard.

I have been on & off disability for the last 2 years, homeschool my teen...so lots hasn't changed in that aspect. BUT because I have been dealing with severe physical limitation, i also can't DO the stuff I am used to doing so I hurt myself or get discouraged by how weak I really am. SO then I end up back in bed for a day or so...

I am definitely going out into the general population less, for sure. and My 18yr old lives across town and I still am driving her places because I dont want her on public transportation...so I see here once a week or so.
I cried after talking to my mom the other evening. Her & dad are both in their 80's and pretty confused about all this. They only live about 30 mins away, but I havent seen them and I really miss my mom's hugs and tinkering with my dad...I hope that this thing will leave them unscathed, but I also know we are far from out of the woods and they don't take precautions like they should because they are just not "getting" it.

I actually looked around the house the other day and cried because I thought what if I die and my kids have to clean out my closet....?

it's not going to be easy these next few months...whether we get to "go out" or not...it's gonna get way worse before it gets better IMO
