New York City, N.Y. - During his Sunday afternoon press briefing on COVID-19, Governor Andrew Cuomo announced 280 more people died in New York State due to coronavirus on Saturday.
The total number of deaths in the state now stands at 19,189.
Cuomo says the 280 deaths are down from 299 on Friday. There were 289 on Thursday, 306 on Wednesday, 330 on Tuesday and 335 on Monday.
The Governor says even though the number of deaths are consistently coming down, the number each day is still a large number, which continues to be concerning. He also said the number of new people with COVID-19 entering hospitals each day continues to come down, but he says that number continues to be high, with 789 on Saturday. He did say you have to go back to the middle of March to see those types of numbers in the 700's, so the curve continues to come down.
Cuomo says New York has entered into a partnership with six other northeast states called the Regional State Purchasing Consortium. The other states are New Jersey, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Delaware.
Cuomo says the consortium will increase the state's purchasing power, "That will then increase our market power when we are buying and we will buy as a consortium for PPE equipment, ventilators, medical equipment, whatever we need to buy."

(11,155 posts)some kind of grouping of areas into a larger entity that can negotiate for the entire group. Maybe call the smaller entities donalds and the larger entity trump or maybe just KEEP THE FREAAKING NAMES and HAVE THE IDIOT IN DC do his FREAKIN' JOB!

The Federal government will retreat from federation to confederation, then ultimately disappear.

(1,262 posts)In my opinion, it's a matter of time.
How much longer will blue states tolerate red states taking more federal dollars that they pay in?
How much longer will blue states tolerate the flaws of the electoral college?
How much longer will blue states tolerate their under-representation in the Senate?

Governor Cuomo of New York has announced a partnership called Regional State Purchasing Consortium with six other Northeast states.
I know you have supported New York with ventilators and other Coronavirus assistance. I would like to suggest you engage with other Blue Coastal and Western states to pursue the same type of Regional State Purchasing Consortium agreement.
This could lead to an Allied States Trading Partnership. States that consistently apply Democratic principles in their governing philosophy can leverage their buying power, and support each other's economic, environmental, and political development. As Democratic states develop a stronger economic and political influence, we can help strengthen the outlook for the entire nation.
It has become obvious, in these times, that our States may be on their own in times of need and disaster. An Allied States Trading Partnership assures mutual aid, economic benefits, and political benefits.
This is a necessary move in these perilous times.
